I was swept up by this book, and found myself smiling at so many of the things that rang true, from incidents that beset any parent on a school run. But you don't have to be a parent to `get it'. It deals with very recognisable lives, in which drama, passion and sorrow bubble under the surface and often breaks through.
Sophie King takes a neat framework: seven characters, all leading separate lives (or so it seems) whose one common denomitor is that they all have a connection to the school. You are swept along in the pacy narratives and then the stories begin making connections, that become bigger and bigger. It is a novel with a seemingly light touch and often very humorous, but at its core it is a moving story of modern living and consequences.
The author handles the strands very well and with some style, and I will definitely be looking out for her next one. Thoroughly recommended.
