5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK ON SCANDI COOKING 10 Sep 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have quite a few books on Scandinavian cookery and have travelled there a lot too and this is - by a very long way - the best book on the subject. Not only is it full of great recipes - including the obvious dishes such as cured herring and many other things that are less well known - it has fantastic background on ingredients, techniques and Nordic culture. There isn't much you would want to know about Nordic food that you couldn't find in these pages. Things that puzzled me for years (like the various different kinds of herring) were made clear once I had this.
The book also has lovely photographs and is designed with a clean freshness too.
The author is a farmer, cook and gardener and it is clear that she thoroughly understands the food she handles.
I honestly can't sing this book's praises highly enough. I am working my way through it and finding unexpected pleasures at every turn.

4.0 out of 5 stars the Scandinavian kitchen 28 Dec 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
We have Danish blood in our veins so bought this for our son who is a very competent cook. Our son has found several recipes he wants to try out, but was rather amused to find one dealing with roast elk! Not many of those around in Yorkshire despite the cold winter this year.
