Book Description

12 Oct 2004
Doctor Edward Jenner, born in the early eighteenth century, was the discoverer of a preventive for smallpox, the greatest killer of mankind. This contagious disease destroys its victims in 10 to 14 days. Those who survive frequently are left horribly scarred or partially or completely blind.

The story of Doctor Jenner and smallpox is told by guests at a dinner party at an old English home, on the evening of the 180th anniversary of Doctor Jenner's death. To celebrate the occasion, the individuals review his life story, including his many discoveries and the trials and tribulations associated with smallpox vaccination being accepted as the way to prevent smallpox. Jenner eventually received universal acclaim. The guests at the dinner party, in the process of telling the story of Doctor Jenner, reveal a great deal about themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Presentation of a Dedicated Physician 9 Dec 2004
By R. D. Harden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The depth of the author's research on Dr. Edward Jenner, (THE MAN WHO SAVED THE WORLD FROM SMALLPOX) is nothing less than awesome------and must surely represent this author's "MAGNUS OPUS" in which the reader can share. A modern day reader with a non-scientific or medical background learns of the unspeakable ravages the smallpox malady had on individuals, nations, and even great tides in history.

The background, hardships, and accomplishments of Dr. Edward Jenner, a British physician two centuries ago, are unfolded by Dr.George Smith, a current U.S. physician, in the format of an after dinner fireside chat at an old, royalistic mansion in rural England on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of Dr. Jenner's death. The participants are four couples, each of whom has extensive and varying scientific/medical backgrounds, and each is well versed with Dr. Jenner's quest, hardships and obstacles, as well as his achievements that led to the elimination of the smallpox horrors from this planet.

As presented in the fireside chat format, the reader becomes a listener in a VERY EDUCATIONAL AND CAPTIVATING TALE.
