In London, Fleet Street is going crazy. They've heard that Simon Templar, The Saint, is off on holiday to Switzerland with his close friend Monty Hayward and everyone wants the big scoop. What case is the famous adventurer really working on? Only intrepid lady reporter Mary Langdon manages to track him down - and soon wishes she hadn't. After a brutal murder, the Saint has come into the possession of a mysterious music box. It's a prize that has set a gang of Nazi agents on his trail, led by Rudolph Hauser. Now The Saint and his companions must escape from Switzerland aboard a speeding Alpine Express and somehow smuggle the music box to safety and home to the War Office...

Hugh Sinclair was on something of a hiding to nothing with this one, taking over from George Sanders after his farewell in The Saint In Palm Springs (one of Sanders best, in fact). So it's pleasure to say that in this and The Saint Meets The Tiger (his only other appearance) he manages to pull off a really good performance...

Plenty of atmopshere, thrills and suspense. Well worth checking out...

Hugh Sinclair Gets His Chance 4 April 2003
By Peter Kenney - Published on Amazon.com
THE SAINT TAKES OVER is a 1940 movie about Simon Templar's adventures which begin on board an ocean liner bound from London to New York. The villains in this case are gangsters who fix horse races. The role of the Saint (Simon Templar) is played by George Sanders for the fifth time in this series. The cast also includes Wendy Barrie, Jonathan Hale and Paul Guifoyle.
In THE SAINT'S VACATION Simon Templar tries to take a holiday in Switzerland but ends up instead immersed in a case involving espionage and a secret code. Hugh Sinclair gets his first chance in the role of the Saint. Also included in the cast are Sally Gray, Arthur MacRae and Cecil Parker.

Love George Sanders, bought this as part of a purchase to obtain all the movies in "The Saint" series. Simple plot, entertaining characters - reminds me of "The Lone Ranger" or "Superman," something you would have watched as a kid at a Saturday matinee at the local "bijou." VHS tape quality is pretty good.
