This DVD is an introduction into Spanish religious sculpture, an art which reached its highest point in the 17th century and which is, unfortunately, little know outside Spain. It shows in a clear and concise way the role the religious sculpture has played in the Spanish religious and spiritual life and it also explains a close link that existed between the 17th century sculpture and painting in Spain.
Highly recommended to everybody interested in art!

I missed this exhibition when it was originally on in London and everything I have heard has made me regret this ever since. It was by chance that I came across this excellent video which was not only a near second best but made me even more cross about having missed the original! One might think that with the subject matter being the often macabre realism of Spanish religious art of this era that this is not a cheery subject. What is so surprising about this film is that it manages to effortlessly awaken the viewers interest into the extraordinary cross over between art, ethnic culture and spirituality that these unusual artworks inhabit. I was left with a sense of having begun to understand the powerful pull of these cult objects some of which are still in liturgical use in the well known Semana Santa processions today. I think that anyone with even a passing interest in any of these fields will find this fascinating and I have to admit to immediately proceeding to buy the book.
