Book Description

26 Jan 2001
This inspiring book is for anyone who has ever asked 'What now?' or 'What will be left of my life when I'm gone?'. In it Mike Riddell identifies the malaise which can accompany times of significant change in relationships, location, working life or age, and shows us how to transform a time of insecurity into a time of personal development and fulfilment. 'None of us has precisely the same path to follow, and yet all of us are summoned to follow a path...For many of us, the understanding emerges at the very time when we suspect it is too late for us to do anything about it. Our soul knows better; it is simply time to wake up.' In an engrossing blend of reflection and story, he encourages us to regain our capacity for wonder and to discover that unique gift which each of us can bring to the world. 'So let us go then, you and I. Forging our way into the undiscovered territory of the mystery which constitutes our living. It is the most ancient of all human undertakings...It is the adventure we have been made for, and we will never know ourselves or others while we ignore it.'

4.0 out of 5 stars Wise words and stories for a jaded generation 27 July 2001
Format:Paperback
24 nuggets of truth, wrapped up in stories and personal experience: spirituality for those who go tired and forgot what their journey was all about. It's a cold shower. It's a celebration of doubt, disappointment and death (or rather, what lies beyond it). It uncovers the pretence and looks for, what one person once called, 'the bad skin beneath the make-up'. This book does not give 'easy answers', nor does not promise cheap grace, but it does provides hope and courage for those who want to keep on journeying with God. It covers relationships, patience, pain and regret, and rediscovering love... If you feel jaded, cynical, world-weary, tired of yourself, then regard Sacred Journey as a kind of wake-up call to new possibilities. As Riddell himself puts it, "we are following the greatest path of all - the pilgrimage of the soul."

4.0 out of 5 stars everyday mid-life crisis guidance is all here. 28 Dec 2001
Format:Paperback
Every once in a while I get to lose track of where I'm going, and to be honest I can't say that I ever get back on anything like a "right" track again. But here in Mike's book are good thoughts on what's important in life, good thoughts on what we should think about when making choices. It's easy to read. It's a thought provoking book instead of an instruction book and it's written by a man who has been there and done it, so to speak.
