Product Description

Product Description

Extremely easy–to–follow due to its natural progression tutorial approach on how to advance from the solution of typical electrical and electronic circuit examples by hand, followed by a SPICE verification through the discussion of simulation results. The first part contains relevant data about SPICE in order to analyze both linear passive and electronic circuits. The latter half provides more detail on such topics as distortion models and analysis, basic algorithms in SPICE, analysis option parameters and how to direct SPICE to find a solution when it fails.

By D. Gee
Format:Paperback
This is a must for those wanting to get the best from the many commercial flavours of spice.

It covers such things as how numerically singular matrices occur and what you can do about them. It also highlights the way GEAR integration can damp a lossless oscillator and so has the potential to make unstable circuits appear stable. In addition the book discusses common convergence problems, and shows which are circuit related and which can be fixed by changing '.options'. The book also has a useful section on macro modelling, and shows the power of polynomial voltage sources including doing arithmetic division and modelling ideal logic gates.
As a heavy user of spice one thing that I found particularly interesting was the thumb nail sketch of the history of spice.

I only give the book 4 stars, because:
a) The book is a little dated now (1994) and occasionally refers to versions of spice that are now not commonly used.
b) The advice about what to do with ABSTOL, RELTOL and the other '.options' is at odds with what I have personally found to give the best results.

Spice made easy with clear thoughtout format. 27 Sep 1998
By Neil W.Fisk (nfisk@compusmart.ab.ca) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book has just about everthing you want to know about spice from it's history in early 60's, to solving convergance in array of circuits, which are difficult to simulate.I found the book to be useful for it's tables to construct better and more models than I had ever imagined possible. The author does use alot of mathematical expressions to explain the spice syntax, but the format is great, and well thought out. This book is the "toolbox" for spice. Others fall short, but this book I'm gald to have on my shelf.

A Must Have 25 Sep 2009
By Mr. Stephen L. Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book answers many of the questions I couldn't find answers to in help files or other books. It also contains much which is found in help files, but I find having it all in one book is easier than wading through the multiple .pdf's that help files have become.
