Product Description

Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, Adventureland) and Dakota Fanning (The Twilight Saga, Coraline) star as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie in The Runaways, the music-fuelled coming of age story of the groundbreaking, all girl 1970s rock band, that paved the way for future generations of female musicians. Plucked from obscurity by rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road), raven-haired rocker Joan, the rebellious Cherie and their band become an outrageous sensations thanks to their tough image and raw talent. But their fast, drug-fuelled lifestyle soon catches up with the teenage girls as success starts to cloud their judgments… Extras included: - Plugged In: The Making of THE RUNAWAYS - Commentary with Joan Jett, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning

Bad Girls 29 July 2010
By Graham Chapman TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Another great story from the decade where music peaked (yep, no arguments, the 70's). Beautifully shot in saturated colours (like the latter part of 'Auto Focus' - another retro film about the seedy seventies worth seeing).

The story is just the usual rock follies, but the Runaways were a cool band and their music is still good to play. They get well-served by some good acting from Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and best of all Michael Shannon. Hopefully it will inspire a new generation of girl bands better than the current batch. (Probably not, though.)

Never mind, enjoy the dvd anyway. See it in a double bill with 'Foxes', an Adrian Lyne film about the same time period, with Jody Foster and the real Cherie Currie. Buy some popcorn, buy some coke (cherry flavour).

I watched this film with interest as a fan of the era and the band, having seen them on the opening night of "Erics" in Liverpool in mid 70s. The movie was average fayre and nothing special. However, it did bring back memories from that concert and of that time. For the record, my 21 yr old daughter and friends, enjoyed it more.

Joan loves rock and roll
Can't say I was ever a big fan of the Runaways though I was aware of them back in the 70s, more by reputation than anything else as it often was in those days before youtube. Read more

Cult film.
I enjoyed this film but it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. I was surprised that Kristen Stewart's performance was so good and Dakota Fanning is as good as always. Read more
