I've recently seen the adverts for the television adaptation of this book and very much wanted to watch it. However, I hate to watch things like that without having read the book first, I find it spoils the book when you do read it. So I decided, they'll probably re-run it at some point - let's read the book.
I've though of reading a Martina Cole book for a while but never got round to buying one. Now I've finally purchased one, I'm hooked. The characters were gripping, the plot full of twists and action and I found myself not wanting to put this book down.
Cathy is an amazing character. She has such spirit, especially considering her upbringing, and I found myself really getting pulled into her world. The characters around her are all so colourful and interesting that I found there was never a dull moment in the book and found myself constantly wanting to read more.
There's a lot crammed into the book but it never feels rushed or as if anything is being skimmed across. At the same time, no time is wasted on unnecessary details. You are told basic background and what you need to know, there's no fluffing to try and make the book longer as is sometimes the case with some authors.
I'm very much looking forward to my next Martina Cole purchase and lets hope that re-run isn't too long coming.
