Book Description

2 Oct 2012

Amy Wilde is tired of the idiots her glamorous flatmate Jo tries to set her up with - she'd much rather be landscaping a garden with her dog Badger at her side than trying to find the man of her dreams. That is, until she meets Leo Wolfsburg. Handsome, polite, funny, intriguing - Leo is everything Amy could want in a man. Best of all, the attraction seems mutual.

But Leo's lifestyle is a world away from her own. Private planes, charity balls, exclusive members' clubs - Amy begins to realise that her simple existence has been turned upside down. And just where is Leo's home country of Nirona, anyway? Is this all too good to be true?

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly delightful read! xxx 26 July 2013
By Megan ReadingInTheSunshine TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I just want to start by saying how GORGEOUS the front cover is! I am a huge fan of floral patterns and the cover of The Runaway Princess grabbed my attention straight away! I had never read a book by Hester Browne before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm always very keen to try new authors, as you never know, you might discover your new favourite book or author. I can say I'm ever so pleased I picked up The Runaway Princess and took the time to see what Hester's books are like!

Amy is so fed up of all the men that her flatmate Jo tries to set her up with, plus she's much more interested in spending her time landscaping gardens. When Leo wants his garden working on, he and Amy meet and she is struck by how lovely he is - Leo is handsome, kind, funny and he fascinates her. But Leo leads a completely different lifestyle to her...whilst she is working hard landscaping gardens, Leo lives in a world of private planes and exclusive parties and members clubs. But can they have a chance at romance?

I thoroughly enjoyed The Runaway Princess. From the first page I was positively DELIGHTED by the story - it was everything I could ever want in a book! It made me happy, it made me want to read on and there were characters that I really believed in and could get behind - I was very much rooting for them throughout!

The characters are beautifully written. I loved Amy, she came across as such a genuine person who has her heart in the right place. I loved how she tried her best for others and her personality shone from the pages. I liked that she is a hard-working girl who was very real and true to life, I'd love to have Amy as a friend!

I think the thing I enjoyed most about the story was the romance!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure escapism 6 July 2013
By Sharon TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Amy runs a successful garden design company with her business partner Ted but her love life is practically non-existent despite her flatmate Jo's attempts to constantly set her up. But it looks like things are about to change when a handsome stranger turns up with some gatecrashers to a party that Jo is throwing. But just who is this mysterious Leo?

When Leo commissions Amy to work on his garden, they start to spend a lot of time together and find that they have a mutual attraction. But Amy is in for a shock when she discovers that Leo is a Prince from the remote kingdom of Nirona and as their romance progresses, Amy soon realises just how much being in the spotlight will disrupt her quiet everyday life and that things will never be the same again.

Amy was such a delightful, down-to-earth character who was fiercely loyal to her family and would do anything to protect them even if it meant her turning her back on the chance of love. And as for Leo, he was such a romantic especially when it came to the proposal . Where can I find my prince charming?

After a few weeks of predominantly reading crime fiction The Runaway Princess was the perfect read for pure escapism especially after a busy day at work. I'm a huge sucker for romance so loved reading about their whirlwind romance and was secretly hoping that they'd be able to overcome all the obstacles that cross their paths to get the fairytale ending that they both deserved.

Having never read a Hester Browne book before, she's definitely an author that I'll definitely look to read again in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really loved it 26 Jun 2013
By Agi
Format:Paperback
I have received a copy of this book from publisher in exchange for a review.
From time to time there happens a book that I wouldn't like to finish. No, I'd like to read it, and read it, and read it and actually never end it. It was such a book.
I have read Hester Browne's "Finishing touches" before, but this book didn't make me happy. But, as I have already said one hundred times, I always try authors again, even if their first book hadn't work for me.
It is not the shortest book, what with over 500 pages, but it was a brilliant read and I wasn't bored for a second. Actually, it's just blown me away.
Amy is the main character in the book and I think one can't not like her. She is so real, she stands on her own two feet, follows her dreams, is a normal girl from the neighbourhood, works hard. She is also intelligent and she knows what she wants. Of course there are moments when she is not so sure about her future but I think, in these circumstances, she is really, really excused.
Amy has a secret. A lot of heroines have their secrets, there is a lot of tension but when it comes to the end, the secrets are some kind of meh. Nothing original, nothing that was actually not expected. But Amy's secret is really kind of bomb, and I have never expected something like this. Finally something new and refreshing.
Amy's best friend is Jo and what can I say, I want to have such Jo for myself. Point.
The royal family of Nirona is brilliant, Boris is so cool, Liza is so real model, Leo, well, Leo... oh my, Leo, and even Rolf has something in him. Sofia needs a big shake and slap on her back but I guess it wouldn't help. And let's not forget about Amy's dog, Badger, who is a character itself, I had a good luck lately reading about funny dogs.
