`[The Rum Diary] brims with snapping, punchy bouts of dialogue, some of which recall the wonderful lines that weave through every scene in Withnail & I' ----Will Lawrence, Daily Telegraph

Withnail and I meets Hunter S Thompson - a hilarious and supremely enjoyable read tied into the release of a major motion picture starring Johnny Depp

By Cardew Robinson TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Bruce Robinson is one of the best British writers of the last 30 years. His track record speaks for itself, of course. If there's a downside to his career it's that this most vital of writers hasn't published more.

Long-term Robinson admirers will lap this screenplay up since all of the Robinson trademarks are here: it's beautifully crafted, the dialogue fizzes off the page and lodges in your head, and the descriptions of action, characters and setting are marvellous examples of how to "show and not tell" in your writing.

People who like reading screenplays, Robinson fans, or scriptwriters wanting a fresh perspective on 'how it's done' will get plenty out of this book. However, I'll stick my neck out and say that you'd enjoy reading this even if you aren't a fan, since the man is an absolute wizard with words. He's clearly in love with language and works hard to make it do what he wants. Consequently, this script possesses more energy and fire than almost anything else you'll read this year.
