Product Description

Synopsis

Job hunting is a job in itself. But too many books are aimed at helping career no-hopers get into a job - any job. This book is aimed at helping ambitious high fliers to, well, fly even higher. It will make sure you get the right job and maintain upward momentum in your career. The book helps you to understand the product - ie, you - that is on offer. What are your strengths and weaknesses, achievements and the kind of career that you should be chasing? It then helps you to scope the job market (investigating jobs, using the grapevine, building a profile with headhunters). It lays out the practical rules for shining at interviews (learning the secrets of the "three Cs" - competence, chemistry and capacity for growth) and sealing the deal (ensuring you pick the right job offer for you and negotiating a package).

Dr Rob has make quite a lot of points in this small black book which I bought off a book shop in Singapore. As we all know that the world is evolving every single second and so did the employers and head hunter; therefore we just need to throw away the traditional CV format and creating one that is unique. In this book, it told us every single main point about job hunting, from creating a winning CV which suit your style to the very last thing about signing the contract.

I am pretty sure that you will not regret buying this book.

`The Rules of Job Hunting' by Dr Rob Yeung is a must for anyone who is looking for a job. It is an invaluable resource laid out in a friendly, clear and easily digestible format.

Rob Yeung starts the book by taking you through an important part of the job hunting process which is often overlooked, understanding yourself and what your strengths and weaknesses are. This I found very helpful. I hadn't actually sat myself down to look at these before doing a job search in the past. It allowed me to see exactly what my strengths were, what type of job I would find rewarding and in the process would also get me into the career I wanted. A much better approach compared to applying to anything and everything without considering this.

Rob then shows you how to write a winning CV and tells you common mistakes to avoid. In addition he shows where there are hidden opportunities for getting your desired job, and also how to be unforgettable at interviews. Again I found this invaluable, as I haven't had allot of experience (I also highly recommend Rob Yeung's other book, answering tough interview questions for dummies). For example it shows you how to prepare for common interview questions, like competency based ones, and how to plan the best types of answers which will WOW interviewers! In addition there are loads of other helpful tips to help you shine at an interview.
Lastly Rob takes you through the things you need to consider before signing the dotted line.
I bought this book a couple of weeks ago, and within one week of reading it, I was asked to attend an interview! It takes some work in the process, for example tailoring your CV to the job, however it really pays off.
Dr Rob Yeung is a brilliant business psychologist and coach, who through his book he share's a wealth of experience to help you to secure the job of your dreams. This book (and many others by Rob) has helped me greatly on the job hunting journey and I'm sure it will do the same for you! Definitely worth every penny!

Not What I Expected 17 Sep 2007
By Mrs
I was disappointed by this book as I have previously enjoyed the various 'Rules of ...' books written by Richard Templar and assumed this was part of the same series. Sadly it wasn't, it lacked the humour and edginess that I had enjoyed in those. This is okay but it is all fairly obvious stuff and not what I expected.
