SONIC BOOM SIX, the explosive and outspoken Manchester-based five-piece, are the most compelling soundclash to rise from the underground in years. A true product of their city-centre environment, The Boom’s sound is as authentic as it is unique. Described by Kerrang! as “taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid”, SB6 ... Read more in Amazon's Sonic Boom Six Store

5.0 out of 5 stars finally it is here ive waited ages for this 11 July 2006
Format:Audio CD
in short, its awesome listen to it.

a slightly longer review.

just, wow. i've been into sonic boom six ever since ive heard 'sounds to consume' which is (or rather now they have released their 1st album, was) one of the most promising mini albums/eps i have ever heard, it wasnt a full album but it was excellent and showed alot of promise. this album delivers on the promise, and then some.

the name of the album is very apt.

if you have heard and SB6 you will sort of know their basic stlye which is often (but not always) rapping to what is often punk or ska. what seperates SB6 from anyone else is not only their technical excellence but their unwillingness to be strictly bound to genre.

they sing/rap very well, the nearest band to them that i know of in terms of rap are probably the beastie boys because despite not sounding anything like the beastie boys they rap with the same kind of interplay and exchange of voices. essentially they are more beastie boys/public enemy kind of rap than most of the stuff that gets in the charts, which is a good thing.

at their core is punk (and ska) though with brilliant tight riffs on the heavier songs as well as quite a bit of ska. then you have the reggae, hip-hop, dance, bhangra (track 11 shareena is really cool with these excellent mixed up bhangra samples) and any other genres they want in. but whats perhaps more impressive is that it isnt messy like alot of music where lots of genres mix up against each other but very tight and great.

seriously this is an amazing album. probably the best of the year and i havent seen anything to rival it coming up. they are awesome live as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The MUST have album from 2006 9 Aug 2007
Format:Audio CD
I first saw this band in 2000 and was blown away by there stage show. I have been a fan every since that first show and have copies of their early releases which, in comparison to this, are average at best. In 2006 they released an album which can only be described as awesome and mind blowing. This album is responsible for me nearly crashing my car on several occasions, as the beat is so encompassing that you do just have to bounce. The style of SB6 is hard to describe with influences from a wide range of artists. You could say they a cross between Asian-dub foundation and King Prawn, but with SB6 styling's. They are one of the most original bands on the music scene at the moment and if there is one band you must see and own something by, this is it.
If you like music that is original, fun and energetic then this is for you, this isn't scene music this is just very good British music. This band represents everything good about the underground music scene from rap to dub to punk. You will NOT regret this purchase and 5 stars isn't high enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bigger than punk rock! 26 April 2007
Format:Audio CD
This really is a very excellent record and the previous Amazon reviewers are spot on. I read about SB6 before I heard a note and the description of their music was somewhat vague - a mix of hip-hop,ska, punk then I took the plunge and got some of their tracks. No descriptions or comparisons can really do them justice, but they undoubtedly have the spirit of The Clash dragged into the 21st Century. Their mix of styles/musical fusion is without doubt the most successful in years. They really are unbelievably good.

If you want to hear the sound of the UK street in 2007, then SB6 and the King Blues are a perfect pair. Relevant and indispensable. I promise that you won't regret buying ths CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making punk relevant again... 1 Jan 2007
Format:Audio CD
This is the future of punk in the UK. SB6 are taking the core punk DIY spirit and making it relevant to a 21st century audience.

Musically they sound something like a mix of the Streets, combined with bands like The Specials, The Clash maybe even Leftover Crack with reggae/dub undertones... Luckily they pull this off and it sounds as good as it sounds! That said, it's probably best to listen to this album with no expectations because these descriptions ultimately fail in accurately discribing Sonic Boom Sixe's 'genre terrorism'. All I can say is it's all pretty mindblowing stuff and SB6 manage to sound fantastic and fresh in a punk genre that went stale a long time ago (thanks to bands like NOFX and Rancid in the US). People forgot what punk meant and so since the 80's the whole subculture has just ended up comforming to non-comformity which has ultimately left punk slipping further and further down into irrelevancy. Well SB6 are out to redefine punk in the UK and make it relevant again.

This is clear on songs such as 'Bigger Than Punk Rock';

"It's not about choosing guitar or the decks its doing it yourself that gets the respect"

Damn right!

SB6 are touring in Jan/Feb, and I personally can't wait to see them live. They are also playing the '30 days of punk concerte jungle' 3-day festival at Camber sands (near Hastings)alongside legends such as Conflict, The Specials and the Anti-Nowhere League.

You owe it too yourself to get this album.
