Synopsis

Iconic, multi-award wining comedy from Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash, The Royle Family is an unusual sitcom in that the action--or lack of it--mostly takes place in the living room of the Royles' house. Together they slump into comfortable yet tatty chairs, sip from endless cups of tea and are entertained by the drone of the always-on TV set in the corner. However, its the show's subtle humour and surprisingly poignant moments that have seen it become a modern comedy classic. This collection includes all 3 series, plus the more recent specials 'The Queen of Sheba' and 'The New Sofa', which is set in the tasteful surroundings of Dave and Denise's flat as Denise attempts to cook Christmas dinner.

This is a 5 disc collection with a 692 mins run time.

I honestly never ever expected to watch a series, comedy or otherwise, that would even compare to The Office, let alone surpass it. The Royle Family does exaxtly that, I would be very confident in saying that this is the best Television series of all time. There are very few jokes, no gags, no ludicrous characters, no storyline for the most part and EVERY episode of the three series is set soley in either the front room or the kitchen but this is funny stuff, just watching people sit around TV, who would have thought it? Its likley that you'll recognise some of these characters from your own life, I certainly do, Barbara is just like my Aunty, Nana, well she reminds me of my Nana and this is part of the appeal, part of the genius, I have never felt such an emotional attatchment with fictional characters, you will not want the series to end, you'll be getting withdrawal symptoms. The second series is the best but for me but the crowning glory is the feature length episode The Queen of Sheba, but be warned, you will cry, anyone that can watch all episodes in chronilogical order and not cry at this episode seriously needs to go and see a psychiatrist, it is shockingly sad I have never been more moved infront of the TV, I cried my eyes out, and nothing makes me cry! if i'm honest The Royle Family should have finished with this episode it was such a staggeringly powerfull hour or so of television, although the christmas special The New Sofa is funny it doesnt bring anything to the series, nor does the Golden Eggcup episode not included here though I would still love to see a 4th series (please please PLEASE).

Buy this, Love this, best series ever. It blew me away.

Classic Roylety! 10 Aug 2010
All the favourite moments in front of the Royle family TV! The kind of comedy that is neither fast-paced nor big plot, but great observation of some great family types and some wonderful one-liners!
