Product Description

The Royal Wedding - Celebration is a commemorative celebration of the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey.

On Friday the 29th April 2011 the nation came together as one to celebrate a very special occasion and the eyes of the world were upon us. In an uplifting, definitive and celebratory account of this truly historic and romantic event, no aspect of the day will be missed.

From the excitement, expectation and joy of the crowds to the couple's balcony appearance, this celebratory film brings all the official coverage of the day together in one memorable film.

The story embraces the reaction of the public, the arrival of Kate at the Abbey, the reveal of her dress, the bridesmaids, Prince Harry as best man, the service itself in full, the triumphant drive through the crowds back to Buckingham Palace and the balcony kiss.

Every highlight of this very special day will be captured for posterity--and for future generations to enjoy.

Narrated by Sir Trevor McDonald.

Extras:
The Official ITN Royal Engagement Interview, with Tom Bradby

After announcing their engagement Prince William and Kate Middleton gave their only interview to Tom Bradby. The couple spoke openly about the marriage proposal, the engagement ring, the moment they met each other's families and their plans for children.

I bought this dvd to remember the lovely wedding of Catherine and William and it is a beautiful souvenir of the day. I loved the way it felt as if you were there- all the crowd noises and the ceremony in full were just what I wanted. It made me cry again and I'm glad it isn't covered in music but let the atmosphere of the day come through. Sir Trevor did a great job with his commentary- not too much chat when I want to take in the spectacle.

I thought the original feed of the ITV footage was a breath of fresh air from the BBC's more traditional take on proceedings, particularly before and after the service. However all the original commentary is gone and, much as I admire him, Sir Trevor McDonald's voice overs are LAME to say the least. (He does the best he can with a dreadful script.) Incredibly intrusive and poorly scripted throughout, annoyingly they dip the volume of the wonderful music so that we can hear Sir Trev say something astoundingly banal.

Bit of a rush job on ITV's part that does not do justice to such an occasion. I hope the BBC version is better and am so glad I didn't delete my HD coverage from my DVR!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile memento of a glamorous state occasion 14 May 2011
By Philoctetes TOP 1000 REVIEWER
I got this DVD as a present for my mum, who graciously shared her birthday with the royal wedding. Thanks to Amazon, I opted for the ITV DVD (we had watched BBC) because the trailer for the BBC advertised what looks like a dumbass documentary with risible talking heads. This one, the ITV product, has a photo gallery and also the engagement interview which is much more pertinent.

However, I must agree that some of Sir Trevor's statements for the narration are banal, presumably for the benefit of the blind. Ideally, the narration should have been an audio option, although it does help to cover the toing and froing. The music that is added is adequate, kinda pastiche Vaughan Williams, a tad intrusive but it fades away once the ceremony starts properly.

It's an ideal memento, the event beautifully photographed, something that we shouldn't take for granted really. Mercifully shorn of any silly interviews with prattling members of the public or junk like that. Mum was happy with it, so that's alright then...
