Helpful. 23 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
Excellent book. Not as simple as an idiots guide, but not too intellectual for the 'just getting to grips' type of people. The perfect balance.

Too Many Errors 23 July 2010
Format:Paperback
As a Shakespeare buff I eagerly bought this only to discover with horror that it apparently follows the New Oxford Shakespeare by gratuitously changing the spelling of place and character names. Only a cursory attempt at explanation is attempted. Hence the book uses 'Ardenne' for Arden in As You Like It because the play has French character names. It uses 'Innogen' for Imogen in Cymbeline because the First Folio was a 'misprint'. It uses 'Petruccio' for Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, Helen for Helena in All's Well, Brabanzio for Brabantio in Othello. The longer this went on the more my enjoyment of what is a fairly comprehensive guide was ruined.
