3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay 15 Dec 2012

It does provide a bit of useful information about the country and people but the writing is not that user friendly (very small print - there is nothing wrong with my eyesight) so it just doesn't read as easily as other brands of guides. Plus there are hardly any photographs in it. I did buy mine in 2010 so not sure if there is now a better version.
Overall it did the job but I would recommend you check other brands out as they may be better.

5.0 out of 5 stars At long lest, a dedicated guide to the Czech Rep., from one of the great 4! 19 Sep 2009
By G. Porecki - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Lonely Planet combines the Czech and Slovak Republics in one short guide. Frommer's and Fodor's offer guides to Prague with some "highlights" of the rest of the country. Till recently Rough Guides did as Lonely Planet. Now they decided to print an expanded guide to the Czech republic itself. And this was a fantastic idea. It has lots more information on places other then Prague and gives justice to the fantsatic country. Cause the Czech Republic is not only Prague. Ceske Budejovice, home of the original Budweiser & Plzen, home of the original "pilzner" beer are great destinations not only for beer lovers. Zlin and Moravia as well as Ostrava and the Czech Silesia are nice out of the way places, that may not have the old buildings of Prague, but have plenty intersting things to see and a nice atmosphere. If you are going to Czechia, then this is your guide of choice! Though it may be the runner up if Bradt finally does an exstensive update of it's Czech Republic (last pulished 3 years ago).

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for a country that believe it or not is hard to find books on 5 Jun 2010
By D. Alan - Published on Amazon.com

I have almost every book on the Czech Republic you can think of. I like how this one covers more than Prague like the other reader said. It is nice that it only covers the Czech Republic first off because it's smaller for me to carry around, and second we are not in the cold war era of Czechoslovakia anymore and most publishers still think we are! I have a Bradt guide to Slovakia when I want to read about that country. I also like the D.K. Eyewitness guide to because at least that one only has a little bit of Slovakia in the back and has beautiful pictures. The Rough Guides are good for information and train travel times, I like the Lonely Planets for hotels, and off course bradts for countries that are hard to find books on (like Slovakia, Estonia, and Ukraine). I never got the bradt guide to Czech Republic though. Maybe I'll buy it when the new one comes out. In the mean time na shledanou!

My eldest kid is studying in Prague this semester.

The guide is thorough and very informative and a big help in getting your bearings and finding the landmarks.
