worth it? 25 Oct 2002
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I love a good historical romance and was expecting this to be one but I must admit that I am abit disappointed. Neither the heroine or the hero stirred much of an interest and the standard villains was very predictable. The love scenes were abover average but with a rather slow story I admit to flipping through some pages just to get to the end of the book. OK but not great.

Excellent sequel 31 Oct 2002
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the sequel to The Lily and The Sword where we first met Gunnar, he has been sent to Somerford by his liege Lord Radulf who believes that Lady Rose the mistress of Somerford is a traitor. She agrees to hire Gunnar and his mercenaries to protect her lands but doesn't realise that he is in fact there to spy on her. Lady Rose a widow is lonely and the only person she trusts is Constance her maid, she dare not trust Gunnar who does not know that the person who is the traitor is Lady Rose's father who has his eye on Crevitch the estate of Lord Radulf and Lady Lily but gradually Rose begins to trust and love Gunnar until she discovers what his reward will be, her home. This is a fine sequel to The Lily and The Sword, Rose is a strong woman she had to be for in the days of William the Conqueror no one's lands were safe and women were not left unmarried for long, Gunnar is a strong warrior but who can also be compassionate. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

A beautiful tale of love, loyalty and temptation. As i had bought Lily and The Sword beforehand, (The previous tale by the same author,) I was intrigued when i saw this title, and so i plumped myself for another heart-warming tale, and i wasn't disappointed. The author has a wonderful way in which she can place mental images before you whilst you read the book, as though you have become apart of the story its self, giving the pages something more then just the written word upon paper. The great detail of the history given in the book is outstanding, and the raw emotion of Lady Rose, who longs for love after many lonely years as a widow. Lady Rose reluctantly agrees to hire a band of Viking warriors to help her protect her lands. But what she didn't count on was that she would lose her heart when the hired warriors come and make their call, falling for the leader of the warriors, a dashingly handsome young mercenary named Gunner Olafson, who he himself, is captivated by the beautiful Lady Rose. But as he is under orders by his master, Lord Radulf, (whom was the previous hero in Lily and the Sword), to seek out the truth if she is an secret enemy of his Lord. Radulf tells him that he may claim her lands as his reward, but in truth, all he wants is the heart of Lady Rose. A truly wonderful tale that will warm the heart and bring a smile to any face who loves historical romances.
