Book Description

5 Jun 2003

If May, Sally and Harriet didn't need the money so badly, they definitely wouldn't be working for Slimeball Slater at Quality Cleaners. So when they discover it's Slimeball taking them to the cleaners, they decide to set up their own business - and that's when things really start to take off.

Working for themselves gives them the freedom and independence they've been longing for. May can afford the mooring fees for her beloved narrowboat; Harriet discovers a true gift for painting and Sally's dream of a place of her own is fast becoming reality. But is it too much, having made such a success of their working lives, to expect similar success in their romantic ones?

5.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as described in the "blurb" 15 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The cleaning service really isn't the focus of this book, instead it's a study of the complex relationships of three very different women (and their men!) I'm such a lover of Katie Fforde's works, I can't be objective - but this book manages the difficult task of balancing three very different stories with sensitivity and humor. While I don't love this book as much as I do "Living Dangerously" or "Wild Designs", I did re-read it - always a good sign!

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read, but the plot is very see-through 2 Aug 2008
By Sarah
Nicely written and easy to read. Okay for light reading, but will not really tax your brain. Not one of Katie Ffordes best, but if you like her writing style you will probably like this.
Plot is very see-through. Guessed what was going to happen almost straight away, which made it a bit boring unfortunately.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Katie Fforde book 6 Nov 2006
By Cathy
This is my favorite book by Ms. Fforde, and I've read almost everything I could find written by her. Reading about these three young women who are trying to figure out their lives really struck a chord in me. It's a book I enjoy reading again and again. All three heroines have spunk, and the friendship they build with each other is inspiring. The book hops around following the different storylines of May, Harriet, and Sally as they try to solve their financial woes, and not only do they find themselves, but they also unexpectedly find romance along the way. It's a fun, easy read when you need a little bit of a pick-me-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rose Revived 29 Oct 2010
By celine6
An interesting and cheerful, yet almost plausible, story. Again this is a story with enough real detail about canals, and how people behave,to set it apart from other novels. There are also plenty of characters who are clearly drawn and worth following. I like all Katie Fforde's books for their light and positive touch. Although her books are light and fun there is also plenty of food for thought in the way she suggests there may be more than one way to look at things. This book, like all her others, is guaranteed to make you smile.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have read for ages 13 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I hadn't read a book by Katie Fford for awhile. I enjoyed this book so much I couldn't put it down. The characters are very likeable and as the story unravelled I felt like I knew them. It concluded just as I had hoped it would. It is one of those books which you want to read all over again as you don't want it to end. A very enjoyable book. I am now going to look for another Katie Fford book to read. I definitely recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice read
An enjoyable read with believable characters, but towards the end it felt rushed, and the dialogue became a little cheesy and unconvincing. Still worth a read though.
