Book Description

19 Nov 2013 House of Trent (Book 2)

Lukas Hawkins, the second son of the troubled House of Trent, is on a mission: find his missing mother and her alleged kidnapper, a brute named Roger Morton. If bringing the villain to justice means breaking a few laws, then so be it. But when he encounters a mysterious stranger with the face of an angel and a body made for sin, Luke suddenly finds his task - and his heart - in peril.

Emma Curtis knows of Lord Lukas's rakish reputation and hopes to use it to her advantage. While most men of honour would never travel alone with an unmarried woman, Luke is quite willing to take Emma on the road . . . and into his bed. As their journey carries them to unexpected places, Luke and Emma indulge their every passion and share their most private fantasies. But just when their deepest desires are finally within reach, a secret is revealed that threatens to end their love forever . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Rogues Proposal 24 Nov 2013
By kat
Format:Kindle Edition
Jennifer Haymores book well written for the time era and good choice of language. Its only the second book of historical romance that I have read. Jennifer Heroine is a sexy Lord Lukas Hawkins and Mrs Emma Curtis who develops a raunchy business affair which turns into evocative love story.

The story set where Lord Lukas is looking for Roger Morton as his involved in the disappearance of his mother and Mrs Curtis is looking for him in connection with her fathers fortune being stolen.

Lukas and Emma travel up and down the country to find Roger Morton. Lukas shares a room with Emma and goes out every night and drinks. He's describes it as dulling the sharp edges of the phantom blades. This related to his past as a child and the abuse his had to put up with. But a raunchy affair develops and he has feelings for Emma.

Roger Morton found and he also another person. He sets Lukas up and he's sent to prison for treason. Emma plead to Lukas brother to help him out. She reveals the abuse Lukas received from the man he called Farther.

Roger Morton kidnaps Emma with the intention to kill. Lukas is one step a head and is already at the house that Emma taken to and he gets shot. Emma marriage is nulled and they get married happy ever after.

Lukas has lots of issues and is a real rogue of his time. But Emma can control him and his urges. Raunchy and sexy for his time.

Well written book and good use language for the time period

The Rogue's Proposal number two in the House of Trent series is the first of Jennifer Haymore's novels I have read and I'm hooked.

The Rogue's proposal is a tale of adventure in life and love. Luke is tortured rake. Emma is guilt ridden because her naivety inadvertently caused the ruin and impoverishment of her family. They form an unlikely alliance uncaring of propriety to discover the whereabouts of Luke's mother and Emma's family fortune. Unexpected complications and internal demons threaten their happiness and their lives.

A great page turning read it has all the elements I love in an historical romance; historical detail intricately woven into an intriguing plot and believable characters that ignite with burning sensuality as their emotional journey progresses.

I received a copy of this e-book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a fan of this series... 19 Nov 2013

I'm not usually a fan of historical romances but for some reason I really like this particular series. This author has such a nice writing style and has created a very engaging story with characters that you can't help but get attached too.
Book one... The Duchess Hunt... was probably one of my favorite books in this genre so book two was an easy addition to my reading list. And, I have to say that I loved book two even more than the first one. I have a soft spot for tortured heroes... especially those who have tender hearts hidden underneath layers of pain. Luke is a bad boy rogue, but that didn't stop Emma from approaching him for help to find the murderer of her husband. And, it didn't take long for the bad boy to be completely taken by surprise by this beautiful and brave woman.
Emma was just the medicine that Luke needed. She helped him unravel those layers of pain and realize that he was deserving of respect and love despite what he had been conditioned to believe. Through their time together on the hunt for the murderer of her husband and the kidnapper of his mother, the duchess, they grow to love one another and a passionate and "kinky" love affair ensues. I will admit that the kinky aspect of their love affair took me by surprise. It wasn't something I expected to see in a Historical Romance novel... and it made me giggle. And, it was definitely a surprise for Luke at her active participation and enjoyment in his intimate and kinky love making. I loved both of these characters and how well they fit together.
There is plenty of hot and steamy time in this book but it is also very emotionally engaging and has a very interesting story in the on-going search for the missing Duchess. I love this colorful and quirky House of Trent family and how they seem to always go against society and their silly rules.
I read this book with a smile and finished it feeling all warm and cozy at their beautiful Happily Ever After. And, we get a sneak peek at the next book in the series which looks to be mostly about Luke's brother Sam. Looking forward to it!
Jennifer Haymore is moving high on my list of new favorite authors... she fulfills my need for that little bit of guilty pleasure mixed with a good story. This series offers a very healthy balance of both...

One of her best. Excellent, well written, good characters, nice story line, different. Wish she had more out there, as I've read all her books. Steamy, don't buy if you don't like heavy romance.

This is the second of the House of Trent books. It made me laugh a little and cry too. Again, a story line that I did not want to end.
This book is not for the faint at heart, it is loaded with Spicy sex. I am so looking forward to the third book. I hope you enjoy Jennifer's House of Trent as much as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love This Series. Can't Wait for Next Book 19 Mar 2014

Reviewed at Another Look Book Reviews

I am wow'd right now. I freaking love this series and this book, The Rogue's Proposal is only book 2! You could read The Rogue's Proposal as a stand alone book but I would not recommend it. There is an overall story that is carried forward and is probably going to last until the end of the series. It is not a heavy plot but it is the plot that will link these stories together.

Luke is what I would call my absolutely perfect lover. Note I didn't say perfect man; because he is not a perfect man. But oh wow he can set the sheets on fire. In fact I am willing to say that the intimate scenes between Luke and Emma are one of the best that I have ever in a historical romance (if ever). Their lovemaking was the perfect mix of erotic and mild bondage and complete love. Now don't go into this thinking that The Rogue's Proposal is a BDSM book and be disappointed because it is not. There is mild and sexy bondage which perfectly matched this excellent couple.

I know that the first thing I have reviewed is about Luke and Emma's intimate scenes (which were brilliantly written) but that is only a partial component of this amazing story. The majority of The Rogue's Proposal takes place on a carriage journey from Bristol to Edinburgh and all the way back to London. I loved it! The author, Jennifer Haymore takes the reader on a journey all across the United Kingdom. I was smitten with all the tiny inn's and the chilly countryside journey. Since it was only the two of them making this trek, you really got to know them well.

I adored both Luke and Emma. Luke is supposed to be a rogue and he is just so damn likable. Since Luke was the most distant sibling in book 1, The Duchess Hunt, an explanation is satisfactorily provided on Luke's distant demeanor and especially the grudge he has against his eldest brother, the Duke of Trent. A great story there! Emma was great. She was not a timid lady. She was a bit naive with her lack of experience but she was smart and determined. I found I really liked her.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series. It is out in May 2014 I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Great!! Read On 5 Mar 2014

I really enjoyed this book. It has all of the elements that makes an excellent romance. Lukas Hawkins had some issues but he had a loving heart that craved its partner. Lukas was looking for his mother and met Emma Curtis who was also looking for someone who had taken her father's money. These two had so many entertaining escapades that had me on the seat of my pants wondering what would come next. There are some twists and turns that just made this a delightful read that had me rooting for the couple throughout the book. Both of them had to come to peace with past mistakes and learn to appreciate real love. I can't recommend this book enough. Read and enjoy.
