Book Description

A moving story about the power of friendship and selflessness, in this poetic homage to The Happy Prince.

Product Description

There was once a robot with a broken heart, good for nothing but expiring slowly on a scrap heap. Then one winter's day a migrating bluebird lands on his shoulder, too exhausted to go further. The robot offers her shelter in the place where his heart used to be, and her warmth and singing and companionship stir up the last glimmer of energy the robot has; he carries her across snowy wastes to the warm south, whereupon his strength dies out finally. And there he still stands today like an old hollow tree, home every year to singing birds.

What a LOVELY book - about love, loss and sacrifice essentially but very beautifully written and extremely moving and very positive. It's a great book if you know you will facing a bereavement to prepare the way. Age group about 3 upwards, possibly even from 2 1/2.

If however you have suffered recent loss it is very hard to read if you are sensitive. Even had my husband welling up.

Not religious so would not offend, and also sits well within a religious context too if wanted.

My son (almost 4) thought it a sad book, but also very much liked it and certainly I did not have any feeling of dwelling on death on his part.

It's a good read, beautifully illustrated and certainly introduces the concept of loss and selflessness in a very sensitive, poignant and positive way.

My son first took this book out from our library and loved it so much that we had to keep renewing it. After the sixth time i looked on Amazon and found a great deal.

An enchanting, poetic poignant little story - our 5 year old is rapt with every read and the story prompts lots of questions.
Cannot recommend David Lucas too highly.
