One of the legendary rhythm and blues bands collections.Containing a very good selection of their best known material. This is no bootleg as it comes through one of Universal Music's divisions.Nineteen tracks in all, sound is very good indeed, there's a mixture of studio and live tracks. They were always such a solid and exiting band live and the included tracks are very good live versions.Pricewise an absolute giveaway at under three pounds. Tracks such as Rollin' n Tumblin',Spoonful, Dust My Broom (a superb version this one is),Goin' up the Country,Big Road Blues,Mojo Working etc. all top drawer Canned Heat.If like me those old LP's have worn out then this is a very good place to start replacing them.Your into boogie and blues then this is a must.Goodtime blues for people of all ages and one heck of a stocking filler.

Canned Heat have had numerous line-ups over the decades (just Wikipedia Canned Heat to see what I mean) & this cd doesn't give any information of when/who/where, which means you could be listening to the original chart recordings or commendable later recordings.
Having said that, if you're a Blues fan, it really doesn't matter because the energy and enjoyment are there to savour. At least 5 of the tracks are 'Live', so if you're looking for the studio versions of 'Going Up The Country'and 'Let's Work Together' this isn't the album for you.

Underrated 60s group,Canned Heat played Woodstock and this album shows how good they were.Better known tracks, such as "On the Road Again" and "Same all Over" are complemented by standards such as "Spoonful","Dust my Broom" ,"Got my Mojo Working" and "Pretty Thing".Check out this great example of 60s and 70s blues by a group whose last founder member ,Bob Hite, died in 1981

This is what you get:-
1) On The Road Again - the original 1968 single edit/mix
2) Same All Over - the opening track of their 4th studio album 'Hallelujah' (1969)
3) Rolling and Tumbling - the first of a number of tracks from an album of early demos originally released in 1970 on Pye as 'Vintage' but recorded 1966-7 and reissued many times in various formats. Many of these songs were re-recorded for the first official Canned Heat album (on Liberty and simply called 'Canned Heat')
4) I Got My Mojo Working - as 3 above
5) Spoonful - as 3 above. The band once claimed that some tracks on 'Vintage' featured no members of Canned Heat; this sounds like one of them
6) Big Road Blues - as 3 above
7) I Got My Eyes On You - as 3 above
8) Amphetamine Annie - the first of several tracks from a 1981 album, and subsequent related releases, called, variously, 'The Boogie Assault', 'Greatest Hits: Live in Australia', etc., when the only member of Canned Heat from their classic 1967-70 line up was drummer Fito de la Parra. The other members are Walter Trout (lead guitar), Mike Halby (guitar and vocals), Ricky Kellogg (harp and vocals) and Paul Rodriguez (bass and vocals)
9) Let's Work Together - as 8 above
!0) Hell's Just On Down The Line - as 8 above
11) So Long - as 8 above
12) Bullfrog Blues - the first of several tracks from a 1969 live album originally called 'Live At Topanga Corral' which was later reissued as 'Live At The Kaleidoscope' (the venue where it was actually recorded) which, for contractual reasons, features no tracks written by the band. It does feature the classic line up of Bob Hite, Al Wilson, Henry Vestine, Larry Taylor and Fito de le Parra. These are all good performances.
13) Dust My Broom - as 12 above

I really hate buying a CD only to find it has LIVE recordings upon it! If I want the concert I will buy the DVD & watch/listen.
