Support this band 28 Mar. 2011

This band is very much influenced by classic Black Sabbath. It fits perfectly into the Doom Metal genre with it's over the top gothic and satanic lyrics. I also sense a taste of New Wave British Heavy Metal in there to.

Give this band some love if you like the above mentioned genres. I hope they release their First Album on Mp3 as well sometime in the future.

Sabbath worship of a different kind 13 Oct. 2012

2010's The Ritualist is the second album from NC-based metal band Hour of 13, a relatively recent band with a decidedly old school sound. We're in the midst of a revival of the heavier, darker metal sound inspired by the early Black Sabbath lineup, and Hour of 13 fits that bill perfectly.

With The Ritualist, Hour of 13 hits that sweet spot between the classic Ozzy-era Black Sabbath sound and the equally classic Dio version of Black Sabbath. It has the heaviness and the riffs of the former and the epic scope and power of the latter, only with more songs about Satan. Actually, if you can imagine Ozzy Osbourne singing on Mob Rules, you'd be pretty close to Hour of 13's sound here. It's killer stuff, and has a great balance between heaviness and melody, with plenty of groove. Some of the songs are full-on doom metal, though most at least have a hint of traditional heavy metal.

If you're a fan of the modern bands that are bringing back the old school heavy metal sound, especially the more "evil" minded acts like Witchcraft, In Solitude, Portrait and of course Ghost, you definitely need to check out Hour of 13. The Ritualist is also going to make fans of classic doom metal from Black Sabbath to Candlemass very happy, or as happy as doom metal fans can get and still be doomy.
