5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 16 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I listened to this album through the MTV Leak and no words can describe how happy i am with it.
I'm a huge Linkin Park fan and was not too piped up at the thought of a rap album by Mike, but after listening to a track a few months ago i'm amazed.
This album is absoloutley amazing and i see all Mike's hard work has paid off.The lyrics are deep and thoughtful and the music is amazing.
My favourite tracks are "Kenji" which talks about Mike's families struggle when they got to the US from Japan. It's very emotional and deep.
"Red To Black" is amazing, the lyric's storyline is intresting and the music is awesome,i believe it's heavier than the rest of the tracks - more rock-ish.
"Right Now" highlights for me,how much we all take for granted. All these situations people are in all over the world right now,how often do we take time to spare a thought on other people's situations, their harship, their pain, their greif?
"Slip Out Back" is outstanding, the lyrics & music combined make it so.
There isn't a single track on this album i hate,it's brilliant.I highly suggest you order this album if you like Linkin Park/Rap/HipHop/or are just open to all kinds of music.
Mike Shinoda along with all the artists included have done an amazing job on this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fort Minor??? 6 Mar 2007
By Jim
Format:Audio CD
Fort Minor is Mike Shinoda's (from Linkin Park) side project. It's hard to catergorise Fort Minor, they are essentially a hip-hop group. However the use of various instruments such as a Violin would make me describe them as a Instrumental Hip-hop group. This album is very experimental and they have pulled it off.

The album has a few methodical songs such as "Get Me Gone" & "Kenji", however it still has mixture of mainstream songs mixed in. I would argue that some of the beats are fairly basic, but the rhyming flows and tells a story.

I would definetly recommend this album to Linkin Park fans, but also to hip-hop fans that enjoyed the Collision Course album by Jay-z & Linkin Park. Rising Tied doesn't have any heavy basslines or anything close to a full band playing as backing though.

Overall....an amazing album which I did not expect to be honest. Any true hip-hop or Mike Shinoda fan should definetly purchase this album. And by Hip-hop fan I don't mean poppy 50pence!

4.0 out of 5 stars Work of Art (Like The Album Cover) 9 April 2007
By Denus
Format:Audio CD
Firstly I would like to say that this album is pushing 5 stars, but isn't quite there due to some quite poor songs, although this is made up for by the quality of the good ones.

I am not a big fan of rap myself, I only bought this album because I am quite a big fan of Linkin Park, and Mike Shinoda stars on this album and what I heard I am extremely fond of. Yes it is rap but is easy to listen to, it doesn't snap at you like most rappers, it sort of flows which I like about this album, the way the lyrics and the backing music blend together well.

The lyrics are very well written and catchy- especially kenji which really gets the listener involved in the story, (It's about WW2 and the American relationship with the Japanese- where Shinoda's family originate from)

If you want to sample a few of the songs i would recommend;

Remember The Name

Where'd You Go

Kenji

Red To Black

Out The Back

Overall Easy Listening to what ever genre is your favourite. A good Buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Superb 2 Dec 2005
Format:Audio CD
It's rare when one can say they like (or love) every track on a particular album, but for this album I can honestly say that. When I first heard 'Believe me' I immediately fell in love with it and with it being by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, it really added some spice to it with myself being a huge Linkin Park fan. This is really the sort of album you can put on and listen to all the way through without skipping. This is certainly my album of the year I can already say, shifting James Blunt's 'Back To Bedlam' which I thought would be come he end of this year for me.
For the moment only promotion is lacking for Fort Minor, but soon I should presume that Mike Shinoda and Fort Minor will prove to be a big sucess in 2006.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviews speak for themselves 7 Dec 2005
Format:Audio CD
I decided to buy this album, more for the reason that Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park was involved rather than the genre of the CD, and i can truely say that it is outstanding. More left of centre from your usual rap records, with something a bit different to offer. I just wish that they would get a lot more air time than they are currently doing, because they truely deserve for their music to be heard. It is my personal CD of the year and has not left my CD player since i purchased it. Music fans of all tastes are advised to buy it.

Really good album from one half of Linkin Park's vocal team!
This is a FULL Hip Hop/Alternative Rap release so don't expect guitars or anything that like Linkin Park's material.
Having said that, it's got more than enough bite and aggression to impress the Rock/Metal crowd and it's fresh and inventive from the Hip Hop POV.
Good lyrics, GREAT production, really melodic tunes with good instrumentation. And a real class tune in Kenji, written about Mike Shinoda's family & their experiences during World War 2 (Shinoda is Japanese American). It's not a pro Japan song or anything like that, it simply deals with the internment of Japanese Americans on American soil, during the conflict. Very interesting!
Fans of It's Goin' Down should enjoy the 'attitude' of this album...
