Product Description

The Risen: Remnants is the third book in The Risen series by author Marie F Crow. This book is a complete story unto itself. Readers of Marie F Crow's previous series titles, The Risen: Dawning and The Risen: Margaret, will find a new cast of characters from the same region following the same timeline as The Risen: Dawning.

The cast of Remnants provides a compelling story as the reader is once again introduced to the Risen, and the dynamics of the choices people make when confronted with their own mortality in an apocalyptic world.

The main character, Beth Clark, is a single mother who, along with her daughter Genny, experience unimaginable horrors. This book is told from Beth Clark’s point of view as she details the events as they unfold.

Synopsis:

Beth Clark lives of the edge of an abyss. Everyday is spent fighting for her survival and the survival of her teen daughter, Genny. Their lives have been shattered by a vaccine that was supposed to have been a modern miracle. A vaccine that is turning the living into monstrosities of their former selves.

Now, only remnants remain of their past lives. Mother and daughter will struggle to survive with what this new world holds for them as they discover the dawning of the Risen.

“Please Lord, don’t let my daughter see me die today.”

~Elizabeth Clark

About the Author

Marie F Crow is the author of the post-apocalyptic series, The Risen. She weaves her stories around the human element of the horror verses the "monsters" themselves. She believes that the real horror of life does not come from the expected, but from the unexpected responses of the human nature and what depths of trauma a person has to survive in certain situations. She began writing The Risen series when feeling that the popular genre was slipping too deep into the realm of pure "slasher" and forgetting what the horror of zombies can mean for a story. Now with her children's series launched, Marie hopes to use her favorite "monster" as a teaching tool to inspire children to understand that not everything that looks scary, is scary. With Abigail and Her Pet Zombie series, Marie hopes to further spread her love for all things "that go bump in the night" with small children showing them that it's okay to be different and to embrace those same differences in those around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars She hasn't lost her touch! 23 Sep 2013
By Tanya - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Marie hasn't lost her touch! The sweat keeps pouring and the angst never lets up. I love her books. They are unlike ANY zombie books I've ever read. Her stories are unpredictable and no one is safe, so, don't be getting attached to a character. :) Her perspective is one of "What if it were true? What if it were YOU?" Nothing gratuitous about these books. I hate to put these books down and often find myself up late at night to get "just a bit more info" about what comes next. It doesn't work that way in these books. Marie keeps you guessing right up to the end.
The worst part about them... she can't write them fast enough. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent story from an excellent author 11 Oct 2013

Marie Crow has once again taken an extremely over populated genre (the zombie apocalypse story) and turned it from something unreal, and almost banal, to a very human story where life is measured not by birthdays or promotions, but by living to see the next day.

The characters Marie brings forward in "The Risen: Remnants" a stand alone in "The Risen" series, are human, a mother and daughter struggling to survive each day against mounting odds. It is fraught with all the issues you find when two people are in extremely close proximity in such a stressful situation, there is humour at some very real human foibles, there is outright joy especially at some near escapes, there is sadness when some of those escapes are at the expense of other cherished characters.

"The Risen: Remnants" stands as a study of humanity, both at its worst and best, written by someone who has an incredible understanding of the human condition. The people you meet are not archetypes, but everyone will recognize part of themselves in each character. Like "The Risen: Dawning", once I started reading "Remnants" I could not put it down, the story compelled me to read it through. I had become once again trapped in the world of Marie Crows "Risen", and knew the only way I could get out was like her characters Beth and Genny, see it through to the bittersweet end.

The Risen: Remnants is another can't read it fast enough but don't want it to end book! The Risen series just gets better and better with each book. This book answered some questions brought up in The Risen: Dawning but it still left me anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. I love The Risen series and Marie F. Crow is still my favorite new author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling Read For Mother Fans of 'The Risen' Series 11 Feb 2014
By Lone Alaskan Gypsy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the first and second novel of this series (The Risen) being completely unaware of the fact there were sub-stories published as well. After becoming utterly addicted after the second novel I began searching around for more reading material. Wah-lah this lovely book showed up in my search results! As you can imagine, I was thrilled. I'm sure many other fans of the series feel the same way.

This book takes kind of a different approach. The main character from the novels, Helena, is not easily found here. Rather there are entirely new main characters. Beth and Genny, a mother daughter duo. This book is a short story that ties in with the novels. The zombie apocolypse has begun and the world as we know it is crashing down. I actually was a bit more fond of this novella than I was of the other two major novels. As a mom myself I could definitely relate to Beth and the trials and tribulations she faces amidst this story. All mothers could understand her pain and fright and undenying worry. Genny, on the other hand, is her quickly-matured daughter who stands beside her mother in their battle for life or death.

This book gives a bit more insight into the beginning of the apocolypse of The Risen. It creates a backstory and a side story to the novel series. I say it's a 'backstory' because it gives you more insight into the characters and The Risen. You learn more about what every 'sane' person is going though, and you also learn more about the cause and effects of The Risen themselves. I say it's a 'side story' because it's seperate from the novels. There are entirely new characters experiencing entirely new things. The situation hasn't changed between the books, but the characters' experiences have.

I found this book was a lot more suspenseful for me than the first novel because I was already enveloped into the story. After reading the first and second novels I became really involved in the storyline. By the time I got to this book I was excited to read more and everything felt a lot more real to me. With that being said I'd recommend reading this book after the first novel, but before the second one. The storyline ties into the begining of the awakening of The Risen, so naturally this book and the first novel go together well.

Once again this book was exceptionally written. I'm a huge fan of this series and will continue to follow it wherever it may lead. I'm in love with the characters. This short story was one of my favorite peices thus far. I felt like I could really connect with the mother/daughter scenerio. And I loved that. It brought a new perspective to the table and I thoroughly enjoyed delving into this specific storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freaky, Freaky and...FREAKY!!! 2 Feb 2014
By Benjamin Jacques - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Okay I am a fan of all the books in this series but none of them got to me like this one did. I was sucked in from page 1, freaked out by the time the first chapter ended, and sat down and read the whole thing in 2 sessions. Watching the struggles of the main characters sent chills through my spine every few seconds and there were a lot of parts where I didn't even want to read further because I was so nervous that they wouldn't make it through, but I was in for a lot of twists and turns and freaky surprises. Intense book, just to warn you, and awesome to read. Definitely pick this one up :) You won't be disappointed!
