I originally heard a few tracks from this album in the early 90's but the album wasnt available locally. I had long since forgotton about it until I recently purchased some old CD's like bathory's 'hammerheart'which brought back a few memories including of these guys. I originally couldnt find this a couple of years ago,but here it is ,re-released at last. My favorite tracks are 'life chain', 'rise of the serpent men' and 'the final war' . These tracks really havent aged, they are still great metal. The vocalist sounds like he really means it,especially on 'the final war' and judging by the updated booklet, they really did mean it with a passion. These guys really have a unique sound, I especially like the melodic little instrumental intro to 'rise of the serpent men' which leads into the cranking signature guitar sound of this band. Also the female vocals (short as they are) in that song are possibly a first for such a heavy band,if not for a metal band generally. If you havent heard this album ,its a classic worth getting, especially as I cant think of anything with a similar sound. Also included on this CD are bonus tracks from the band 'wartech' formed after axegrinder split in 1991.May the serpent men rise again!

The long anticipated CD re-release of the crust classic. For fans of Amebix, Neurosis, Deviated Instinct, Hellbastard, Misery, Nausea, etc
Great CrustPunk 20 May 2007

Awesome UK Crust from the 80's. Sounds like Amebix if Amebix had great production. Anarchist lyrics over crushing metallic punk. This doesn't bore me like so much punk rock does today. I don't like the Wartech demos at the end, though. It's hard to believe that it was almost the same band but with a different bassist.

"Rise of the Serpent Men" is awesome. The Wartech Demos at the end kinda suck. I wish peaceville had just gotten the "Grind the Enemy" cassette and put that on there instead...
