DVD Description

These two BBC plays bookend the political career of Margaret Thatcher, between her three turbulent terms of office. Although fictional accounts – one sharp and fun, the other dark and powerful – they provide a unique insight into one of the most significant political figures in British history.

Margaret Thatcher – The Long Walk to Finchley

Starring Andrea Riseborough with Rory Kinnear, Sam West and Geoffrey Palmer

Margaret Roberts is an ambitious twenty-something research chemist on the first rungs of the ladder to parliament. But is the Conservative Party really ready for a young woman prepared to speak her mind? Her journey to power might have started something like this…

Margaret
Starring Lindsay Duncan with Ian McDiarmid, James Fox, Robert Hardy and, Kevin McNally Thatcher's astonishing downfall was one of the most extraordinary stories of political assassination ever seen. This intimate portrayal shows the private figure behind the public persona as she loses the one thing she really cares about – power.

Both excellent dramas 28 Mar 2010
Well what can I say ?You get a comedic account of the great woman's eventual election to Parliament. Then you get a depiction of the self-inflicted Greek tragedy that was her political demise. The acting in both programs is top notch and it is clear that the script writers know their stuff.Amazon are as ever offering great drama at a great price and if you want quality stuff to watch then this is for you.

Both Thatcher dramas are worth a look and no mistake !

Absolutely stunning 20 Jun 2010
The rise of Margaret Thatcher 'The long walk to Finchley' is an amusing combination of how Margaret might have done it and what actually did happen. It is played very well and keeps you interested every second, her bond with her political party and her bond with Denis are both amusing and gripping.

The fall of Margaret Thatcher 'Margaret' is a gripping and chilling experience. With some of the quotes and speeches taken from real life events, you get a sense of what it would have been like for her, for her family and for the Cabinet. If you're a lover of Margaret Thatcher, some of this will be sobering, if you're a hater, it will be enlightening. As a lover, i found it to be interesting and hard to watch.
