Product Description

Product Description

Every bit as mysterious as the Whitechapel murders themselves, the "Ripper Diaries" have intrigued and infuriated both historical researchers and the "Ripperologists" since they first came to light in 1992. Either one of the most sensational finds of the 20th century or one of its most brilliant literary hoaxes, the diary of Jack the Ripper has created its own tangled and tortuous history. It is this history which Keith Skinner, Seth Linder and Caroline Morris disentangle in a work of literary sleuthing which offers a reassessment of the evidence and insight into the personalities involved in Ripper research.

About the Author

Seth Linder and Caroline Morris are journalists. Keith Skinner is a leading true crime researcher and writer, and was one of the first experts to be consulted on the Ripper Diaries in 1992. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Brilliant! 14 Mar 2004
By Matt
Format:Hardcover
I've been interested in 'Jack the Ripper' since a very early age. I was intrigued when I heard about The Ripper Diary, and when I found this book I bought it just to find out a bit more.

I was very pleasantly suprised, this book tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the diaries, while still retaining the mystery that keeps us all so hooked on the Whitechapel Murders. If you are at all interested in Jack the Ripper I'd strongly recommend this book. It deals with all the evidence surrounding the diaries and is the best resource I have found about this puzzling new development of the intruiging Jack the Ripper murders.

A gripping read 6 July 2004
Format:Hardcover
I read the diary when it was first published and, at the time, I was fairly convinced by it. Since that time I have become pretty convinced that it is a hoax. However it has to be said "what a hoax!!!". This book provides a very interesting account of how the pro and anti diary camps fought with each other and spent vast amounts of money trying to prove their respective cases. It won't convince believers that the diary is a fake and it won't convince non-believers that it is true but it does provide a fascinating insight into the people and personalities involved in what can only be described as a battle of principles.

The Ripper Diary continues to intrigue and baffle all who would solve its problems. Following the books by Shirley Harrison and Paul Feldman, this is a fascinating look at the players in the debate over the diary, bringing the story up to 2003. The story behind the diary and its protagonists is as weird and wonderful as the diary itself. This is an essential addition to the debate and should be read by all who are interested in Jack the Ripper.
