Too little too late 6 April 2005
Format:Audio CD
Once again movie makers abuse fans of movies classic scores by giving them half the music of the original and unfortunately some of the poor compositions of the sequel. The music of "the Ring" by Hans Zimmer reflects influences of the Hitchcockian era of horror movie scores, giving a nod to scores from films like Psycho or Vertigo.
This album attempt to appease angry fans who like me were quite mad about the fact that there never was a cd released for the original film. Our hopes were raised when this release was previewed but alas they were hopes in vain.
Instead of being treated to the full eerie score of the first film, we are force fed a diet of remixed crap which doesn't seem to appear in the film that much. The track order is disjointed and does not do either movie justice although Ring 2 is a pathetic sequel and the music from the second film suits it rather well.
On the whole I'm not going to use this much more, a waste of money. If you are looking for good movie music scores try John Debney for the Passion or Hans Zimmer for Hannibal or Gladiator. The cd is an offense to fans of the wonderfully scary music in the original. Not worth the money.

Haunting 17 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD
one of my favourite film scores , this soundtrack features all the haunting songs from both films. my favourites are ill follow your voice and seven days. i noticed whilst listening to the album , some songs wereint actually in the film (seven days and television)but they were an added bonus in my opinion. the music set the scene very well in the films and i just had to buy it. recommended if you like classical music :)

By Duke
Format:Audio CD
I have to say, I watched the film the other night (and sequel) and the main music theme that really stood out is the one surrounding the investigation of the video's origin and Samara's past. I think the track for this particular chapter of the story is "Shelter Mountain", with its creepy yet fantastically done strings, and the clever key change between each bar making it really eerie and mysterious. Great pace and build up too!

I'm not so keen on the other tracks towards the end of the album, with the fx becoming more dominant in the music, as i don't feel it really suits this particular story or film, so the 4 stars is just because I feel its some of Hans Zimmer's best. The more electronic take on horror/the darker film genre sort of thing works brilliantlly in the Underworld Soundtracks, and the epic "Eternity and a Day" track from Underworld Evolution. Really beautiful.
I really recommend checking that out.
