About the Author

George Clason (November 7, 1874 April 7, 1957) is best known for writing a series of informational pamphlets about being thrifty and how to achieve financial success. He started writing the pamphlets in 1926, using parables that were set in ancient Babylon. Banks and insurance companies began to distribute the parables and the most famous ones were compiled into the book The Richest Man in Babylon. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound financial advice, but a bit repetitive 25 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
This book uses parables to sell it's own methodology on how to attain great wealth, but this book is not a get rich quick scheme - in fact far from it. This book teaches you how to grow wealthy over time utilising the income you are currently on, and I don't doubt that if the principles in this book are applied with dedication and conviction then that is exactly what will happen - you will grow wealthy.

In a nutshell this book teaches sound financial planning and shows that with a little bit of preparation and commitment practically anyone can enjoy a wealthy existence. It's a good book but does tend to repeat itself a lot, which I guess is the nature of parables - telling the same underlying story in many different ways to get the point across. This book will only be of value if you intend to use the advice it gives, and if you do heed the advice it could be the most valuable book you'll ever own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golden Writting 23 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
OK, so I'm young, i was foolish with my money, i have debts, and i have a low wage. My financial situation really wasn't looking too good. In fact it was getting worse and worse. This book has been my savour. Instead of trying to give you a load of get-rich-quick schemes, it gives you advice that is worth so much more than the price of the book, advice that ANYONE can apply to their everyday lives. This book doesn't tell you exactly where to put your money, but it tells you how to THINK about your money.

The even better thing about this book is that it is not a boring drabby book, it pleasantly tells you stories about different people, tells you about their problems with money and how they overcame them, and you learn from the morals of the story and then there is usually a kind of overview to sum up what you have learnt in that chapter.

This to me, is a very recommendable book, and i am glad i purchased this, i would recommend this to anybody of any age, or to anyone who is poor OR Rich!

When you have finished reading this book, you will come out with a fresh head, with fresh ideas with a whole new outlook on how you manage and control you money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wake up and smell the money! 4 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
I read this book before Rich Dad, Poor Dad and can highly recommend the combination.

Rather than a guide on strictly how to make money, this book helps you to manage the money you are already earning more efficiently. By doing so will then allow you to go forth and use your savings to earn more money. Like soldiers in a battle, some maybe lost, but some will conquer and come back with captives! The parables and metaphors make it an interesting read as you have to think about the lessons given with each story more so, and the summary at the end of each chapter solidifies those lessons further still.

The 'revision and updates' for the 21st century are somewhat hard to find in the old style and slightly chauvinistic text, but the ability to apply the theories does exists in today's society.

A recommendation for those in financial hardship as well as those with more prosperous lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars life changing 1 Aug 2009
By yvo234
Format:Paperback
I just finished reading the book and I loved every single word in it. It has changed my attitude towards money and spending it. I can say about me I was a bit a shopaholic but never entirley happy with spending. This book has changed my life. I am working on paying my debts off asap and I still pay myself first. It does work for me. I am so looking forward to find my first investment soon.
Although the book is written in a more old fashion english it was not difficult to read it even for me as English isn't my first language. I can highly recommend this book for anybody who is looking for getting back in control of life and money. It is worth every penny spent.

This is by far one of the greatest and most influential books in my Library. The updated, restored and revised version brings it home and makes 21 Century sense of these ancient writings, without losing the original essence of the material. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a radical improvement in their financial life. It offers practical solutions that are applicable immediately, in order to gain financial freedom and begin to build wealth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal finance 101 15 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
Our society is so obsessed with rich people, but we only pay attention to their expensive mansions, cars, and lifestyles. But few of us notice how these people got there. Their expensive possessions are the end result. So, what do we do? We borrow and spend to accumulate possessions so that we can be seen as wealthy. If you truly want to know how to build wealth, read this book first.

I absolutely loved it. I have read many books on personal finance, but this one gets the point across really well. The author teaches financial lessons through short stories. The main ideas behind this book are paying yourself the first 10% of your paycheck, spending less than you earn, and letting your money work for you. This is such a simple concept, but at the same time extremely hard for people to execute. Since this book was first written in 1929, I have to warn readers that it is written in old English so it might be a tough read for some people.
