I've been waiting for this to come out in print for years. The original radio programmes and cassettes (why no CD, BBC?)were wonderful and the words were beautifully spoken by Fine Time Fontayne (not his real name, I'm disappointed to learn). Now the book lets you hear it in your head all over again. These are very funny, poigniant, nostalgic stories set in a Yorkshire pit village in the 1980s and 1990s. There's even a new story, bringinng Richard Matthewman up-to-date. Though the Barnsly setting is brilliantly portrayed the stories will conjour many familiar situations for anyone born in the late 50s or early 60s who ever left home and had growing up thrust upon them. Ian McMillan's comparison with Lake Woebegon Days is not unjustified and the stories carry the same humour mixed with love of the home town that Garrison Keillor's show.

Very good read, thoroughly enjoyed this. Brought back a lot of personal memories from my childhood. A book I read at one sitting.
