Product Description

Product Description

Life has its rhythms. We all need to be able to cope with its ebb as well as its flow. We have to survive its darkness as well as its light. We face dry times as well as times of richness. To survive this intricate pattern, we need to have an overriding rhythm of prayer. We need to know that whatever is happening, we are loved by God, and in him we live and move and have our being.

Highly Commended 11 Jan 2005
Format:Paperback
I have been using this little book as a daily office for some months now and have not got board with it yet. The prayers are beautiuful, and while othodox, they are also creative and imaginative, a rare conbination. Having tried many offices this definitely suits my purposes best at present. It is convenient to use on bus, train, at home, in church or in the woods. I only wish there were a smart leather or hardbound edition.

Drawing from the Celtic sources, and right through to the most current service books of his church, the vicar of St Mary's Church on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne here offers a weekly round of prayers. Each day is themed; all share a rhythm. The balance and reasonableness, the praise of creation and love of nature, the peaceful devotion in a world of striving, all are characteristic of David Adam's work and of the Celtic sources (Carmina Gaelica) in which he immersed himself before writing. Keep it bedside for daily use....

I have found this book immensely useful. It contains 28 short offices for personal or group prayer. It is arranged into four for each of the 7 days of the week and each office is drawn from many sources, some by Adam himself. Use occasionally or, better, regularly.
