Jorn Lande and Russell Allen (the vocalists) are both top notch rock/metal vocalists, brought together by Magnus Karlsson (guitar) on first "The Battle", and now here.
It's a mix of Euro metal and hard rock. Some of it's heavy, some quite commercial, and all have very definite melody lines. Quite catchy, if somewhat cliche'd choruses. And Very good guitar, lots of shredding. Sometimes strays into "national anthem" metal territory, but overall good.
The style is very similar to "The Battle"; a bit heavier, possibly better produced (Dennis Ward is at the desk), but not as commercial; the choruses aren't as immediate. Still quite a variety of rhythms, the odd slow number, a shuffle or two, top class vocals, and interesting use of orchestral bits & pieces.
The problem I have is, Magnus Karlsson wrote all this, and also does Starbreaker, and Last Tribe (his day job). Starbreaker was very different to both Last Tribe and the first Allen Lande CD. This doesn't stand out as especially different, better, proggier, or anything else compared to "The Battle". Could almost be the left-overs from the first A/L sessions, re-mixed, with a few extra bits sneaked in. Not bad, but not the same quality as Magnus' other stuff.
Shame, I really wanted to like this. If it'd been the FIRST A/L CD I'd probably like it, and then be praising his progress when the 2nd one came out.
As it is, I suspect I'll give this one a few spins, and then go back to the first one exclusively.
