3.0 out of 5 stars Good but now great 30 Sep 2011
In Inspector Clouseau Peter Sellers created one of the greatest comedy characters and he and Blake Edwards reunite for a fifth Pink Panther film featuring the inept Frenchman.

After Return and Strikes again the Pink Panther series began to falter at this point as the character of Clouseau began to get more and more extreme and the plots of the film began to get more and more like a James Bond spoof with the ending in particular being totally manic.

One thing that is nice about this film is that we see Clouseau walk off into the distance and this is made more poignant by the fact that we now know it would be the last time Sellers played the character.

5.0 out of 5 stars really good , especially if you're a bit down. 30 May 2010

Sellers at his best. How anybody could have even thought that Steve Martin could hold a candle to him baffles me. Nothing on the telly ? Nothing new there. Grab a copy of this, and a few beers. Perhaps a tin of Deep Heat for the aches you'll have, laughing at it. Go for it. I've now got the whole collection. Come and join me, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The last in the series but a bundle of laughs 8 Dec 2011
With Blake Edwards directing, this 1978 film in Pink Panther series was the sixth, the fifth starring Peter Sellers. (The 1968 film "Inspector Clouseau" starring Alan Arkin did not involve Peter Sellers, Blake Edwards or Henry Mancini and, although it was enjoyable, it had a hard act to follow and was not up to the same high standard as previous films.)

This film finds Chief Inspector Clouseau battling against the French Connection. This was the last film portrayal by Sellers who died two years after this film - aged fifty-five. (The 1982 "Trail of the Pink Panther" was cobbled together from unused bits of film but his widow sued the makers for detracting from his memory.)

Peter Sellers - Chief Inspector Clouseau
Herbert Lom - Chief Inspector Dreyfus
Dyan Cannon - Simone
Robert Webber - Douvier
Paul Stewart - Scallini
Burt Kwouk - Cato

Although it creaks a little in places and lacks some of the vital freshness of the originals which made the series its name, it is still full of laughs and a credit to those who sustained this character for five successful films. Now on single DVD at 2.50 (about the cost of a cinema coffee in places), it will amuse for hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as his earlier Pink Panther films 6 Sep 2011
I did enjoy this DVD, however the gags were not as funny as I would expect from Peter Sellers.
The scene where Sellers was dressed up as a China Man just didn't work, however the scene where Sellers was a Mafia boss was hilarious and well worth seeing.

The story just plods along with an ordinary plot with not a lot of imagination unfortunately, this is not one of the best Peter Sellers movies but far from terrible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem. 2 Jan 2014

On what was to be his last complete Pink Panther film,Sellers once again shines in the role that was meant for him,as does Herbert Lom,I wanted this for my collection of funny films and it does not let down at all,a pity there were no more,if you are an afficionado of The Panther series then add this to your collection,it would not be out of place,I guarantee you.

5.0 out of 5 stars King of Comedy 21 July 2013

Sellars depiction of the good Chief Inspector is one of the greatest comedy characters of all time. Some believe this series got progressively worse but this one bucks the trend. The openning sequence is just wonderful as is any scence with the magnificent Herbert Lom and Bert Kwok.
