Read this years ago as I have done with all Sherlock Holmes books.

Being free on kindle I thought I would revisit and was not disappointed. Considering I had already read, I couldn't put it down and zipped through the stories.

If you like Sherlock Holmes then this is the book to revisit, if you haven't read Sherlock Holmes then this is the book to start with.

1 fault 27 Dec 2011
By Zakalwe
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a massive fan of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books and have read all of the other installments in paperback before getting this one on Kindle. I have enjoyed this immensly and would have given it 5-stars (along with every other Holmes collection) were it not for "The Adventure Of The Dancing Men". It is the only book I can remember where it has been necessary to view the illustrations to try and delve into the plot and solve the mystery on your own, unfortunately the Kindle edition only says "GRAPHIC" where there should be illustrations. This is the one fault that the e-book has so I would recommend paperback if, like me, you like to puzzle over the mystery on your own, otherwise download this for free! It's a must read either way!

excellent read 17 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Old fashioned writing, but not a put off, it is really well written. I really enjoy all the stories and you can really understand why Holmes is a classic timeless hero. The kindle is really good at highlighting words that you do not recognise. I love this collection and highly recommend it.

It is fairly easy to recognise the stories because of the TV programmes with Jeramy Brett. There is a fault either in the book or on the Kindle or even on the download of the book. Read more

There are some trees, Watson, which grow to a certain height, and then suddenly develop some unsightly eccentricity. You will see it often in humans. I have a theory that the individual represents in his development the whole procession of his ancestors, and that such a sudden turn to good or evil stands for some strong influence which came into the line of his pedigree. The person becomes, as it were, the epitome of the history of his own family." "e;
