4.0 out of 5 stars The Return 11 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is based on the Bible parable of the Prodigal Son and gives an excellent insight into the story. Divided into three parts, the first part is a modern dramatization of the story which points out that far more people are involved than the father and two sons. Part two is a detailed examination of the parable which is found in Luke's Gospel. Beginning with the background and the origins, there follows a section about parables, the way they reach into the heart of the listener. They are not confrontational as a direct word would be. `A parable is a message with clothes on'.
Part three speaks about handling relationships in the light of the parable and asks questions about whether we can identify with any of the characters or how we would deal with the issues. Finally, there are personal accounts of those who recognise themselves as one or other of the characters in the parable.
An excellent book for personal use or could well be used in a group setting.
