Thankfully, the art of telling a good story in less than 500 pages is not totally lost. Yes it's a series, and yes, you need to read them in order, but each Sten book is more of an episode than a continuing soap opera. As such, each is able to stand (or fall) on its' own merits.

With book 6, Messrs Bunch and Cole deliver yet another action packed episode. Don't expect anything deep, these are the literary equivalent of the better Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Just sit down, strap in, and go along for the ride.

If only Alex Kilgour would lose that damn accent. Having to say the words out loud so I can understand what he is saying is a touch embarrassing when I'm on the train.

i like the old covers the best.. when the publisher goes to the trouble of re-printing a title, you'd think they'd at least stick with the same cover concept that made the original famous.. but noooooo..

cole and bunch are/were a SOLID team. they wrote eight VERY good books for the sten series, and, in my time, the sten series is one of the best i've read.

Once again Sten goes up against the forces of evil for the emperor. Lots of battles, covert activities, and the standard bad Scottish joke! A+ all the way, but you get the hint that something isn't quite right in the empire, or with the emperor for that matter. Sets the stage for the next installment.

This is a great Sci-fi novel that mixes in a lot of action, and great plot and an even better backround. The story follows the actions of Sten, a great secret operations soilder of the future and his actions after the fall of the huge empire that had run for thousands of years, with its ruler the emporo, being assinated. In the following power grab, Sten finds himself back in action. There is plenty of supense in this book, and I was drawn into the story and found myself reading chapter after chapter, saying just one more page. Nothing short of a great book.
