Book Description

1 May 2011
The Repurposed Library is a celebration of the possibilities that books have to offer as an art material. Obviously, we love to read and learn from books, but The Repurposed Library takes our passion for books one step further, presenting crafters with 33 projects to make out of books. Each year thousands of books are sold at flea markets for pennies, remaindered by bookstores, and given away by libraries. Lisa Occhipinti rescues and repurposes these orphaned books, transforming them into new art objects and practical items for the home and everyday life. The projects in The Repurposed Library range from artfully constructed mobiles, wreaths, and vases, to functional items, such as shelves, a secret box, a lampshade, and even a Kindle holder for those who want to replicate the sensation of holding a realA" book. Projects utilize every imaginable part of a book - from hardback cover to individual pages - and often require no more than a craft knife and Elmer's glue to complete. Hand-drawn step-by-step illustrations make the instructions especially easy to follow.

Very little inspiring content in this book. Most of the items I wouldn't make eg a lamp stand made out of a pile of unchanged books. Might as well just place a lamp on a pile of books!
Lampshades covered with book pages, not even pictures! Isn't that a fire risk? Just as well no one will ever bother making them.
As for the pack of cards inside a book.. neither useful nor art.
Save your money, go onto pinterest for better ideas (and it's free).

5.0 out of 5 stars Things I can do! 11 Mar 2012
By Smooky
Format:Hardcover
This is a great book of simple projects that use old books and make them into new and lovely things! It has very clear instructions and I felt I could do most of these projects. Particularly love the cascading mobile on front cover, and a little bird house made with children's books...Wonderful stuff!

This book is full of inspiring ideas and they are all artistic but simple enough that you can make them at home...just don't tell your granny that you are destroying old books!!
