Product Description

Product Description

Former terrorist Pascual lives in Barcelona, concealed both from the world and his past. Until someone who knows too much about him turns up; this time, from France. Pascual is taken off to Paris, a routine identification of a Syrian in a bank. Only he arrives in the middle of a war -- a war between extremists from Algeria, where simply killing someone isn't enough. It turns out that Pascual's Syrian is tied in to the nastiest set of villains circulating around Europe, avoiding the bloodbath in Algeria and picking over the bones of old Soviet Russia. Once again, it's all Pascual can do to stay alive.

Superb thriller! 24 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This superb thriller follows the ex-terrorist Pascual as he reluctantly but determinedly negotiates his way around a complex plot involving Syrian bombers, Russian mobsters and Algerian fascists. The book's great strength is as an antidote to the genre's usual offering of stereotypical heroes and villains, ridiculous chase scenes and gratuitous sex and violence. In their place, we get a contemporary and realistic world inhabited by three-dimensional characters acting on decisions taken as human beings rather than superheroes. Finally, a great read rather than a wannabe screenplay! Highly recommended.

Pascual March is an unlikely hero, a Catalan who joined and later betrayed the PLO; he now lives in semi poverty in Barcelona hiding from his former allies. Trusted by no one and in turn trusting nobody March is in no position to refuse when he is contacted by French intelligence with an offer, come to Paris and identify a former terrorist and earn $100,000 or we will tell the PLO where you are. The result is complex and bloody tale involving the French, American and Russian secret services together with the various factions of the Algerian civil war.

Different, well plotted and written Mr Martell has written two other novels featuring March, we can only hope he will get round to writing a few more.
