Book 2 in the Area 51 series

When they uncovered the truth about Area 51, scientist Lisa Duncan and Special Forces officer Mike Turcotte revealed the secret history of decades of UFO sightings and extraterrestrial contact. But that history goes back much further than they could have possibly imagined…

Hidden deep beneath the waters around Easter Island is a giant supercomputer called the Guardian, and it has just sent a message into outer space. When the reply comes, it will signal the execution of an alien plan millennia in the making; after five thousand years, “they” are coming back. But who are they and what do they want?

As the extraterrestrials race toward Earth, Duncan and Turcotte must scramble across the globe, from the Rift Valley of Ethiopia to an ancient Chinese tomb, to determine the aliens’ true intentions. If they fail, first contact with these visitors could mean last rites for the human race.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first in the series! 3 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Area 51: The Reply is even better than the original Area 51 novel. I really can't delve too much into any of the key plot elements because that would spoil crucial events, but suffice it to say that there are enought plot twists and explosive events that keep the pages turning. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there were a few technical errors in the book (that was the only thing keeping me from giving the book 5 stars), most of them relating to military aircraft, but still those errors didn't take much from the storyline. A thourougly enjoyable read, just make sure you read "Area 51" first! Can't wait until "Area 51: The Mission" comes out...

5.0 out of 5 stars Even beats the first Area 51 novel! 22 Mar 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Robert Doherty: title - Area 51: THE REPLY

The characters from Area 51 are back! In the first novel The Guardian sent a message into space. Humans could do nothing but ponder who made The Guardian and where were they now. In the second novel, The Guardian gets a reply. All military branches of the world look toward the starts for the mother of The Guardian. But the aliens were not on a ship heading toward Earth. They had been much closer for a long time. They had been sleeping...deep within Mars.
The Guardian is not alone. There is another Guardian in Mars and it was reviving its creators. And there are other things to worry about.
A tomb in China turns out NOT to be a tomb, but an alien chamber...A giant ruby turns out to be a doomsday device to destroy Earth...The aliens say the are coming in peace, but proof shows they are not.

Read the others before you read this one or you enter the plot out of sync. Very exciting, it could be true.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hyphen problem fixed 18 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about buying the Kindle version of this book due to the comments left by other reviewers regarding the over use of hyphens which I think is a throwback from the paper version of the book. However it looks like the author or Amazon has taken notice, I'm now half way through the book and not a hyphen in sight. The story itself pretty much follows on from where book one left off, fast moving, griping and a real page turner. I will certainly be purchasing the remainder of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first, but still a nice read 10 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
After flying through "Area 51", I was somewhat disappointed that the characters in "Area 51: The Reply" weren't as well developed. I thought the character of Kelly Reynolds was especially flat after such a great introduction in the previous book. I would still recommend this book, it is goot, but I think the author put more thought into the development of the characters in the first book.
Now, to the strengths of "Area 51: The Reply". The action sequences of "Area 51: The Reply" were very well done. Definitely Mr. Doherty's forte. I also enjoyed the development of the STAAR conspiracy, and look forward to more of that in the next book.
I hope that for the next book, "Area 51: The Mission", we get all the action of "The Reply" combined with the well thought out and detailed characterizations from the original.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sequel! 23 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read this book before I read the first Area 51 book. It was confusing, but extremely helpful after I read the first book. The book starts off exactly where the first one left off. With the discovery of the Airlia held up on Mars, as well as a strange device in Ethiopia's Rift Valley, six craft head for Earth to land in Central Park. But with a discovery of another gaurdian computer in China, it seems the Airlia aren't as nice as they were imagined in the first 'Area 51' book. Characters differed very much from the first book. Mike Turcotte seems more of an easy going guy. Lisa Duncan becomes more of a character, and a romance seems to be blooming between her and Turcotte. A good deal of suspense and action keeps this book going. Eagerly awaiting for the release of "The Mission"

2.0 out of 5 stars A great bo-ok but wh-y the hy-phens? 9 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really en-joyed the first book in the se-ries and managed to get th-rough it de-spite the odd hyphenated word that ap-peared in the midde of some lines. As ot-hers have me-ntioned I think this is a th-rowback from the fo-rmatting for the print version.

However in this bo-ok there are mul-tipe badly placed hy-phens on every sin-gle page, and this cau-ses the book to be ex-tremely dif-ficcult to re-ad

I am ab-out half way thr-ough and am seri-ously considering giving up. every time I hit one of those cra-zy hyphens its like i do a men-tal hickup and it seriously im-pares my enjoy-ment of the st-oryline
