The Spectator, 18 January 2003 (Patrick Boyle)
There is no question in Murray's mind that Reeves was some sort of genius and doubtless should be up there with the 100 Greatest Britons.
Sight and Sound, November 2002 (Philip Kemp)
Widely mourned as the great lost genius of British cinema... Murray here gives us the first biography of the tragically short-lived director.
Kinocite, 17 January 2003 (K.H. Brown)
.. a wonderful book..The book's brilliance lies in separating out the intentional from the coincidental.

From the Author
This book is not a critical examination of Michael Reeves' films (Witchfinder General with Vincent Price, The Sorcerers with Boris Karloff, Revenge of the Blood Beast/The She Beast with Barbara Steele, Castle of the Living Dead with Christopher Lee and Donald Sutherland in his debut). It is a celebration of his extraordinary cinematic achievements and an examination of the enigma behind his astonishingly swift rise (directing horror legend Boris Karloff at barely 23) and rapid fall, dying just as he was achieving international recognition with the success of Witchfinder General. By talking to some of the people closest to Michael Reeves, I have sought to answer my own curiosity about what explains the heartbreaking story of one of England's greatest natural-born film-makers.
