"The Harry Brown series has been a big hit in England and could be the same here if word spreads." --"Booklist"

Product Description

When Harry Jones discovers that former friend Zac Kravitz's life is in danger, a debt of honour sends him on a perilous rescue mission to Ta'argistan, a mountainous and landlocked former Soviet republic bordering Russia, China and Afghanistan. Muscling his way onto a delegation of MPs who happen to be paying the state a visit, Harry finds an unlikely ally in the stubbornly independent Martha, and together they devise a plan to break Zac out of the grim prison Bodima. But when the attempt backfires and he finds himself stuck in prison in Zac's place, little by little Harry realises that all is not as it seemed and that he has been lured into a web of international conspiracy.

Second best 12 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The third in the Harry Jones series, better than The Edge of Madness, but second best to the excellent Lords' Day.

Taking Harry off to a former part of Russia with the twists and turns that brings gives the story something contemporary and different from the norm. And Harry finds himself in enough scrapes to satisfy.

For me though the book tailed off a bit too quickly, and lacked the originality of the Lords' Day which Dobbs' books will forever be compared!

Good, short chapters, easy read.

Having read some of the negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I agree that some of the storylines are a bit far fetched but it was difficult to put down. For me I judge a book by how easy it is to read, whether I like the hero, do I look forward to picking the book up again and does it start and finish well. This book passed on all those criteria and not many do these days. I would recommend it and will certainly try another of his.

Reluctant enjoyment 4 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
I think Mr.Lambert is being somewhat unfair. I have just read "Goodfellowe MP" swiftly followed by "The Reluctant Hero". Two ends of Mr.Dobbs' writing career. The former smacks of personal understanding of the subject, the latter is more fantastical. I read "Hero" in one day, on a long plane journey. Frankly, it helped me get through 4 hours of tedium quite nicely. Not quite what Mr Dobbs was hoping for, perhaps, but it was a page-turner none the less.

Tried hard to like this but it commits the terrible crime of being rather dull and poorly plotted.

The Reluctant Hero
I absolutely loved this book. The story line is pretty basic and the action far fetched, but neither detracted from the enjoyment. Read more

Unputdownable!
A classic, easy to follow yet intensely gripping Harry Jones thriller. One of the best fictional survival stories of 2010.
