Just when you think things can't get any better (or worse depending on your point of view), the Chevalier du Morte has to play nursemaid to his former best friend and Brother of the Order as he lies between life and death in a hospital bed instead of marrying Meredith as planned. In his absence, the evil forces in the chapel run amuck and the Order's saintly priest falls prey to one of them. The Philosopher's Stone makes a miraculous appearance and he is forced to go after the lost Key of David which opens the fabled Ark of the Covenant. Unfortunately, the Key has fallen into the hands of an evil sorceror who wishes to appease the ancient gods in an attempt to postpone Armageddon by sacrificing the artifact to the Powers of the Abyss. Instead of recovering the Key, Mark Ramsay finds himself in the Abyss with a pair of lovely goddesses, fighting for domination with a fire-breathing dragon. Meanwhile, back in Scotland, Dambretti makes another bid for Meredith's hand in marriage. Mark returns only to find his world up-side-down and his home taken over by his Brothers of the Order who have assumed him dead. He is left bereft and hopeless, but things look up when he is forced to take a holiday in Rome. Another grand success in suspense, misery and magical fantasy as Meredith finally finds her place amongst the Brothers.
