Product Description

It was on a beautiful morning in June 1973 that eleven-year-old Miller McAllisters world fell apart That was the weekend that police found the remains of three missing teenage girls on the tiny Scottish island of Fidra. And that was the weekend that Millers father, Douglas, was arrested for triple murder. Thirty-two years later, Douglas has died in prison and Miller returns home after decades of self-imposed exile. The McAllister family always maintained Douglass innocence as steadfastly as Miller maintained his guilt. But when Miller is given the legal archive and a letter his father wrote to him just days before his death, suddenly everything looks less clear. To excavate the past and recover the truth, Miller immerses himself in the terrible events of over thirty years ago and his familys darkest hour. Was nothing quite as it seemed on that fateful June day? Could Douglas McAllister have been innocent after all? And if he didnt kill the girls who did?

Splendid stuff! 14 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
I have just finished reading The Reckoning by Sue Walker and can highly recommend it to any thriller readers out there.
I have to say this is one of the best books I have read in ages. It had me guessing "whodunnit" right up until the end. I almost missed my stop on at least three occasions being so engrossed in the story!
Splendid stuff. Read it!!!

Well worth a read 27 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
For a good two thirds of the book I was completely hooked, but then i began to work out where "the truth" lay. Somehow it all seemed just a bit too implausible; could anyone have really kept those secrets for thirty years? Could anyone really be as bitter as Miller had been? And did such quantities of alcohol have to be consumed?!
The setting certainly added to the atmosphere, but I think that, by the end, I was just a bit annoyed at how people's lies and secrets could have resulted in such tragedy and unhappiness.
However, it was extremely well written and I shall search out the other books by the author.

This is the first Sue Walker book I have read and thought it to be absolutely brilliant and will certainly be reading her other books. I think I managed to suspect everyone along the way and I simply couldn't read it fast enough. I loved the ambience created by references to Scotland having visited many of the places mentioned and loving them and the ending was not so far fetched as some other thrillers can be.
