Book Description

1 Mar 2010
Ever since the publication of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, vampires have been a part of the popular consciousness. Now, with the release of the phenomenally popular Twilight novel and the subsequent films, it seems that we can't get enough of these blood-sucking creatres of the night. But we might not sleep quite so soundly if we knew that vampires aren't confirmed to the page and the screen. There is a thriving UK vampire scene that has its roots deep in our history. Their shadowy secrets - which include drinking actual blood - have remained hidden from public gaze...until now.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Twilight: A Definitive Study 19 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
Vampires are certainly in the news now with TWILIGHT, TRUE BLOOD and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, but then they always have been since the publication of Bram Stoker's eponymous bible Dracula.

Such is the fascination for vampires, that many see themselves as the real McCoy or at least embrace it's history and culture by adopting a vampire lifestyle. The subject of the real vampire's life has been beautifully presented and well researched by Arlene Russo in her wonderful and informative book.

To anyone who expects Christopher Lee pouncing on his victims will be sorely dissappointed by the book. This is not for the casual reader. THE REAL TWILIGHT presents the vampire world in a very different light. As an undisputued expert on the subject Miss Russo effectively charts it's origins, history and present day existence, complete with rituals and folklore that should give the average Dr Van Helsing pause for thought! Miss Russo also blows away the myths surrounding the most famous character traits; no they do not all sound like Bela Lugosi.

Its not all a bed of roses for vampires (perhaps I should say garlic!). Miss Russo also explores the darker side with certain serial killers taking their vampire tendencies to sickening extremes, along with the attitudes of certain members of society towards vampires (which have sadly resulted in tragedy), and how AIDS, bad press and the decline of many well established clubs has had a knock on effect on those who embrace this dark world. Miss Russo has put togther an educational and thoroughly enjoyable book.

So whether you are the genuine article or someone with an interest in the subject, THE REAL TWILIGHT is a fine example to get you started.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Real Twilight Arlene Russo 17 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
If you are into everything Vamp, then this is a great book to add to your collection. Arlene Russo has drawn on her skills as the founder of the Bite Me magazine and collected together some amazing interviews with people who truly believe they are the creatures of the night.

Arlene had some amazing help when she put this book together, Dr Raymond T. McNally and Vincent Hillyer, two Dracula scholars, who unfortunately, passed away before the book was completed. Arlene tries to answer the question which is on everyone's lips.

Do vampires exist?

By looking at folklore and talking to modern day believers Arlene takes the reader by the hand to uncover the truth behind the fictional character of Count Dracula. Could Bram Stoker have based his character on elements of real vampires?

By reading Arlene's book you will discover there are other kinds of Vampires other than the blood-sucking type.

Arlene reports on some horrendous crimes, as she uncovers many blood lusts which has led to some terrible murders being committed by the modern creatures of the night.

I'm afraid to say garlic and crucifixes won't help to protect you against the real creatures of the night, that Arlene writes about in her book, 'The Real Twilight'.

So you have been warned, this isn't a bedtime read, I promise you.
