"The BAFTA and Oscar-winning film The King s Speech has brought to the force the inspiring story of King George VI s struggle to overcome his crippling stammer. Featuring interviews with former patients of therapist Lionel Logue, the film provides insight into the working relationship between Logue and his royal patient as well as looking at the methods and techniques he employed to 'cure' his patients. There are also interviews with leading historians of the King, Edward VIII, Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Additionally the programme underlines the vital role of Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, in helping her husband overcome his disability. The programme contrasts King George VI's speeches with those of his brother, the former King Edward VIII, a natural performer. Both men in speaking publicly - one renouncing his throne, the other accepting it - had to conquer their own demons and reveal themselves in a way a King had never done before. Through these speeches the programme explores the relationships between the brothers and in turn their relationship with their father George V: the first King to speak on radio and television to his subjects. The film also pulls into focus a moment in British history that fused the issue of the King's stammer and the destiny of the monarchy; an emerging age of mass communications; of economic depression and global instability: a period of British history when the monarchy needed to show leadership and confidence but with a King who had to overcome a key physical limitation: his stammer.

This is an excellent documentary about King George VI's personal struggle with a speech impediment and his work with elocution teacher, Lionel Logue. I would recommend this instead of the film of the same name.

Since I've stammered since early childhood I could well understand the frustration that comes with the problem and I'm a long way from the King of England ! The movie was adequate but the documentary that came with it is fantastic. That should have had a public opening.

I choose this DVD to see how the Kings stammer was treated. I thought it was brilliant, and the way in which the then Queen was a great help to him.
It must have been very daunting for him to give a speech, knowing, that everyone was watching and listening, and then a pause, watching it, you felt that you wanted to go and help him. It seemed like a life time waiting for the next word to come, and probably he must have felt very embarressed, but in the end with help he managed to over come it.

This film is more a documentary than a film if you want a film with actors playing the parts download the Kings Speech with Colin Firth in it, this has people who were connected with George the sixth and his elder brother Edward telling their story's. There are also interviews with people connected with both of them.
