Format: Paperback
This book tells the story of Admiral Sir James Gordon a man whose exploits in the Royal Navy where quite exceptional. Although he was never to be involved in the large scale duels such as trafalgar his tactical awareness was to see him achieve great victory as a frigate captain. Although a biographical study the book compels you to move through it at breakneck speeds. I had never heard of this man before I read this book, which I have to say is a great shame for this is the story of one Great Britains finest heroes. Admiral Sir James Gordon career is not just limited to the war against France and her allies but also is very actively involved in the war against America. Including the battle from which the US national anthem was to come. A great read which I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone. Buy this book I can gaurantee you will not be disappointed.

A well researched book that chronicles the life of the Admiral whom would seem to have been the basis for the excellent "Hornblower" series of books by C.S. Forester.

The author has thouroughly researched his material and clearly enjoyed doing so. Although it is a little "dry" it is readable and I enjoyed the book.
