What can i say about this book that will do it justice? It really needs to be read (aloud) to be appreciated, (not an overstatement!)
This is a fantastic storybook for children, boys and girls alike, made irresistible by the quirky, cute illustrations and the beautifully written ryhmes.
As a children's librarian in a large library I am familiar with all the new storybooks for children. It is my responsibility to co-ordiante and run children's storytime sessions, and this book is always a favourite. Children's enjoyment of this book tends to increase the more familiar they become with the characters and ryhmes, from the mouse, cow and whale, to the adorable ravenous beast himself.
I would only recommend this book for children over the age of three (although under three's may enjoy the pictures), as there are over thirty pages. Each page, though, has a rhyme about a VERY hungry animal listing the many unusual and wonderful things they could eat (because they are SO hungry!!)
This book would make a fantastic bedtime story, and is a great book for a child to keep and treasure over time, proving charming, captivating and humourous for both children and adults alike!!!
