By A.S.
Format:Paperback
Marion Woodman focuses upon the masculine aspects of the female psyche and the male psyche within intimate relationships and relationships with the self. Her chapter titles reflect her broad span of associations such as "Dragon Slaying, murder or sacrifice" and "magicians, tricksters and clowns, masculinity in addictions". She refers to metaphors for these aspects of psyche throughout the book and uses case studies to elaborate the themes of masculinity within the psyche. It is an excellent book, though because it is full of metaphor, I found I needed to read and re-read to allow the metaphors to percolate. Not really a book for sceptics of the analytical traditions within psychotherapy.

Important book for all women wishing to live consciously in this culture 18 May 2011
By Karl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am partially writing this because there is only one other review - an unfounded criticism based on the fact that the reader (whose command of English grammar is questionable)found it too difficult to read.

I read this back in 1990 when it was first published. I am not an academic and I do not have a post-secondary education, yet I found this book to be a deeply insightful and transformative read. It was not difficult to understand at all.

Reading this book helped me break the cycle of addictive, self-destructive behaviour at a time in my life when such a process was pivotal and essential for me to move forward in a clear and positive way.

Do not be dissuaded by the other review. Marion Woodman's wisdom can change your life.

ununderstandable prose 9 July 2006
By V. Vroon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
beware! i think this book is can not illuminate anything to anyone not trained in jungian psychology and/or who just loves to be plunged into and having to plough through 200p of very unclear prose
