On a visit to the U.K. I happened upon a copy of this wonderful book. There is incredible humor in this rhythmic and unusual tale. When I read it I laughed out loud. I was unable to find it in America so I purchased it from Amazon UK. My 5 year old grand daughter likes it as much as I do. We read it often and each time it is as fresh and funny as the last. The illustrations are among the best I have ever seen. As a result, I have looked for other works by author, Jeanne Willis, and illustrator, Korky Paul. If you have a slightly twisted sense of humor you will love this book !

Korky Paul's illustrations make this splendid book come to life. It's a book you simply have the read over and over again. Written in rhyme the book tells the story of Rufus Skumskins O'Parsley who makes and eats horrible things and decides to mak the ultimate Christmas Cake. The cake takes on a life of its own and escapes from Rufus causing Rufus to rethink his old and disgusting ways. We have now collected most of Korky's works and my children, and their friends, always ask for more.

This is such a fab fun book. I bought if for my little 3year old who absolutely loves it and has learnt it off by heart. I think it would suit up to about a 6yr old, my son just hasn't got bored of it even a year after we first saw it.

Night after night after night my daughter requests this book over hundreds on the shelf! It was a favourite of both my older children too, and they still creep in to listen. The pictures are incredible too. I can't recommend it enough!

This is a cracker of a book. I bought it at christmas for my 4 year old daughter. This has become her favorite book, she wants me to read it to her all the time and to be honest i really enjoy reading this book. We both love the wicked sense of humor, the horrendous stinky ingredients that go into the cake and how the cake comes 'alive' and tries to eat Mr O'Parsley. It's a wonderful book for any child who enjoys the fun side of yukky stuff. I enjoy it so much I will definately recommend it to friends and my daughters montessori school teacher.

This is one of those books that you'll enjoy reading to your children night after night.

The prose flows like Dr Seuss. There are layers of language and subtle observation that will keep adults amused whilst kids enjoy the simple rhyme and more obvious things like insects on toast. And the illustration is excellent too - lots of detail that you will only see the on your 10th time round.

This is not a well known book, but every bit as good, if not better than, The Gruffalo. It really should be in every child's bookcase.

This book is about a man who made horrible food. My favourite part is when the cake comes alive. I like it because the cake bites Rufus. You will like it when the cake goes on holiday and wears sunglasses.

My five year old daughter brought this book home from school. She and my 7 year old daughter love the discusting receipe and the wonderful rhymes. They insisted I buy a copy to keep. It is also good fun for dads (and mums) to read.
