Book Description

3 Sep 2009

The ghastly Mr Skumskins O'Parsley's favourite dishes include wormcast butties, squashed tadpoles on toast and bogey burgers. O'Parsley decides one day to bake an extra special cake, with more revolting ingredients than you can possibly imagine. However, when the cake decides to eat HIM, he realises it is time to mend his ways.

The rollicking rhymes by Jeanne Willis are accompanied by Korky Paul's exuberant illustrations.

On a visit to the U.K. I happened upon a copy of this wonderful book. There is incredible humor in this rhythmic and unusual tale. When I read it I laughed out loud. I was unable to find it in America so I purchased it from Amazon UK. My 5 year old grand daughter likes it as much as I do. We read it often and each time it is as fresh and funny as the last. The illustrations are among the best I have ever seen. As a result, I have looked for other works by author, Jeanne Willis, and illustrator, Korky Paul. If you have a slightly twisted sense of humor you will love this book !

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reading for adults and children 19 Jan 2003
Format:Paperback
Korky Paul's illustrations make this splendid book come to life. It's a book you simply have the read over and over again. Written in rhyme the book tells the story of Rufus Skumskins O'Parsley who makes and eats horrible things and decides to mak the ultimate Christmas Cake. The cake takes on a life of its own and escapes from Rufus causing Rufus to rethink his old and disgusting ways. We have now collected most of Korky's works and my children, and their friends, always ask for more.

This is such a fab fun book. I bought if for my little 3year old who absolutely loves it and has learnt it off by heart. I think it would suit up to about a 6yr old, my son just hasn't got bored of it even a year after we first saw it.
